Pregnant -- is it likely? - May 5th 2013, 12:54 PM

Hi,

I had sex with my boyfriend 4 times this past month. Each time, a condom was used, to the best of our knowledge, appropriately. Prior to putting on the condom, I was fondling him and touching myself. I do not think any of his pre-ejaculate fluids got on my hand before touching myself/putting on the condom, but I am starting to worry now. The reason is that my period was due yesterday, and it has not arrived. Furthermore, my breasts feel tender and I have gained [Edited.] (might be bloating or fluid retention). I know the only way to find out is to take a pregnancy test, and I will, but I am wondering if it is very likely I am pregnant? I'm trying to be patient, but am very anxious and stressed about it. I obviously hope not to be pregnant.

Some couples can never fall pregnant. Some couples fall pregnant even when on the best contraceptives.

Having said that, I don't think it's very likely. The open air is a pretty hostile environment for sperm. Yes, there is a risk, but it's a low risk.

I'd give it a week or so before you get too stressed, periods don't always run perfectly to schedule.

Thanks! Just took a test -- negative! Phew. Will keep an eye on it, but not as worried.

That's gotta be a relief to start with. All the best!

Oh, and have you considered the Pill or IUD as methods of contraception as well?
