So, I might be pregnant. -
October 8th 2012, 09:51 PM
I've had many symptoms (yet also a few symptoms not there) of being possibly pregnant, including not having my period for over a month. The thing is, though, I'm on the birth control Implanon, an injection they put it your arm that's supposed to last for three years. Is it really possible that I could be pregnant? Also, I'm not sure how I feel about this whole situation. Part of me is very excited, and part of me is terrified. I'm really confused and don't know which to think. So I just think a combination of the two. And, I took a birth control test, but it said neither negative nor positive. There was no result. My fiance is very supportive of whatever I decide to do (if it turns out I'm pregnant). I just have to somehow get a hold of another pregnancy test (although I have no money) and see where we go from there, I guess.

With birth control, it could fail at any time. Nothing is 100%, and when you have the birth control injections, the likelihood of them failing are higher. if you've been experiencing symptoms of being pregnant, the only way to know for sure is to take a pregnancy test. So, because you've engaged in sex, I'd say, yes there is a chance of pregnancy regardless of you being on birth control. Like I said, nothing is 100% (except for abstinence).
If your short on cash, you could always borrow money from someone with the promise to pay them back, but there is always ways you can get a pregnancy test done for free. Do a local search of free clinics in your area, or even go to the dollar store to purchase one of their tests. It's like just $1, and they are as accurate as name brand tests. This should be done before anything else.

Oh, wow. I didn't think there would be a likelihood of the injection failing so easily like that. I guess I should've been a lot more careful about that. But I didn't know about that kind of possibility because my doctor never exactly told me that kind of thing.
And you're right about getting that pregnancy test. That's very important, and I should get that done before I think of anything else, really.

Any kind of birth control fail, though. Not just the infection. Condoms can break, a pill can be missed and forgotten, the injection might not take within your body. As I said above, nothing is 100%. Taking a test is the best AND only thing you can do at this point.

Shannon, it's not an injection like the depo shot. It's a little rod in your arm.
The likelihood of it failing is very small, but still possible. If you don't have money for another pregnancy test, can you get to a planned parenthood center? They do it for free.

I have the money to get a pregnancy test, I just need to get a ride somehow. Which I've been trying to do.
Also, today, the symptoms seem to be getting worse and worse. I feel terrible. I feel sicker than I've ever felt before. It almost seems like a sure thing that I am pregnant. I don't think that there's any way that this is just my mind playing tricks on me...

Well, how long ago do you think it was that you could've gotten pregnant?
Because lack of having your period is a very common side effect of the birth control that you're on, so I wouldn't rely too heavily on that making you worried.

Well, my last period was in August. And the last time I had sex was in September.
It isn't the missing period that has me worried, because I know that's a possibility with the implanon.
However, it's the other symptoms that make it seem highly likely that I am.

Well, the thing that's good and sucky about the injection-type birth controls is that you can be missing your period and it's working, or you could be missing it because you're pregnant :/ kind of makes it hard to tell haha
I would just do as you're trying to, take the test and go from there. Don't let yourself get too psyched out(:

Just wanted to point this out: It's possible that you could be experiencing a placebo pregnancy. Basically, if you convince yourself that you're pregnant, then your body will begin to exhibit all the symptoms of pregnancy.
Of course, the test will tell you for sure.

I took another pregnancy test today (I happened to find some change, and got three), and it came out negative. However, I took it this afternoon so I'm not entirely sure how accurate it is. That's why I plan on taking another one in the morning.
I know this sounds a lot like it was my anxiety or my implant doing this, but it really does feel real...

While tests can be taken at any time during the day, they're best taken in the morning when the pregnancy hormone, known as the hCG hormone, is at it's highest.

I took another test this morning. As it turns out, I'm not pregnant. However, this makes me somewhat sad. I've developed a kind of bond with my tummy. I kept talking to it.
