Vaginal bleeding- shouldnt be period? -
October 7th 2011, 12:46 PM
Right,
So kinda worried
Woke up this mornign to realise there were spots of blood in my underwear. It's started getting slightly heavier now/
However, i'm not due my period for another like 2-3 weeks. I'm normally totally regular and don't have problems.
What could it be?

Are you sexually active? If so, this could be called implantation bleeding, which occurs during a pregnancy. If you are sexually active, you should get your hands on a pregnancy test, take it and see if you get a result.
If you aren't, this could just be excess blood from your period. Since you are due again in another 3-4 weeks, that just means your period ended within the last week or so, and it isn't uncommon. If the bleeding doesn't stop, you'll have to contact or see a doctor for medical advice.

I'm due again in about 2 weeks, so have been finished for nearly 2 weeks- doubt its leftover.
I am sexually active. Took the morning after pill last week- was wondering if that could have anything to do wtih it?

Definitely. The morning after pill can screw up your cycle, but not forever. This could definitely be what it's from. You could look up some extra information on the Plan B pill, and see if random bleeding is a part of it, but if you can't find anything, definitely contact a doctor to make sure everything is as it should be.

I'm going to move this to Sex and Puberty. I agree with Shannon, it is very likely this is from Plan B. It messes up your cycle and on all pamphlets that come with Plan B pills it states you may have irregular bleeding.

I've not heard of vaginal bleeding from Plan B. It could be implantation bleeding. Just because you took Plan B, doesn't mean you're out of the water yet. If you've always been regular, that doesn't ALWAYS mean you're going to be regular. This could be your actual period. But if I were you, I would contact a doctor. Tell her everything you told us. A doctor could really help get to the bottom of what's going on. :]

"This isn't the case, though some women will experience bleeding after taking Plan B. Trussell describes it as “not rare” but also “not common.” The bleeding is called a “withdrawal bleed” and is not menstruation. Rather, it’s caused by the change in hormone levels."
You can read more here about Plan B.
Though, Lynds is right that Plan B isn't 100% effective. It's most effective if taken immediately after intercourse. The more time that passes, the less likely it is to work. So, I'd advice taking a pregnancy test in a couple weeks or whenever you actual period is due to be certain.
