Voice is deep, probably too deep - July 31st 2023, 04:34 PM

ay mates

since I've been around 14 it's been common for people to comment that my voice is very deep, although I personally think it's too deep. When I speak I'm usually within the 2nd to 3rd octave, which is apparently the baritone range, but I feel like it's a lot deeper than I think. I feel like it makes my speech hard to inflect or comprehend as people occasionally mishear what I'm saying. My voice just feels harsh. Anybody have any advice?

I think it's just a progression of your age. Nothing to worry about

It's probably true that some people won't be able to hear you quite as well with a baritone voice, but as you become more confident in your voice/communication through practice, you'll likely speak more clearly as a result.

At around your age people can very often be nervous or insecure about their own voice no matter how it sounds, really. Especially if other people make comments about it, but just know it's not as big of a deal as you might think.

Everyone's voice is different and some people naturally develop deeper voices than others. In one way or another, I think we all also develop a bit of dislike for the sound of our own voice and can become self-conscious about it. However, there's nothing wrong with having a deeper voice! If you've noticed that people have trouble understanding you at times, perhaps you could try enunciating more on words that might be less clear. If you tend to speak more quickly, slowing down your speech may also be helpful.

foreign hearts & exotic minds compelled her.
she had a gypsy soul
and a vibrant heart for the unknown.
