Low libido - August 14th 2020, 09:44 PM

Dear TeenHelpers,

I've noticed my libido has been low for the last month or two. Like, really low, I don't masturbate (I used to do so once a week) and I don't feel the need to have sex at all. Suddenly my bf can't turn me on and I have no idea why.

I've ruled out these two possibilities as reasons for that:
- contraceptive ring (I've been using them for almost a year and the problem only started some time ago)
- antidepressants (I'd been taking the same type of meds from July 2019 until July 2020 and the problem started around June, so I don't know how this could be connected).

Correct me if I'm wrong, maybe one of the above could be the reason after all. But I'll be grateful for any other ideas as low libido is quite upsetting at times.

Hello and thank you for posting. I hope you find the help you seek!

I wouldn't rule out contraceptives or antidepressants. Hormones are complicated and they do change over time. That's why you sometimes have to increase a dose of something or change medications: your body's chemistry is always changing. I would suggest talking to your doctor, honestly, if your low libido is bothering you. They will be able to help more than we can.

Keep in mind, though, that libido changes throughout life and some variation is common. I was in a relationship that started off very sexual for a couple of years but then their libido changed and we had to adjust while it was doing that. Oftentimes after a time libido returns. So don't lost hope. Talk to your doctor and keep in mind that this is within the realm of normal.

Have you tried to eat bananas, passion fruit for example? It may sound ridiculous, but they can work.
