Used a Condom but GF Period Still Late - August 5th 2015, 01:32 PM

Stumbled upon this form while doing some research and I thought this would be the perfect place to seek some advice.

Well I'm a guy and I had sex with my girl about 3 weeks ago, her period should've came already but she's about 2 days late. I did in fact use a condom and after each round and I came, I ensured to check the condoms if they broke and they were perfectly fine. I'm probably just paranoid but I've done this many times and her period came as usual but now idk what to think.

Hey, welcome to Teenhelp!

Using condoms alone (according to WebMD) protects against pregnancy around 82% of the time. So while you may have done everything right, there is still a chance of her getting pregnant.

Since it has been three weeks since you had sex, she can take an over the counter pregnancy test. These can be bought at any grocery store or pharmacy. It only takes two weeks from the day of having sex to get an accurate reading from a pregnancy test, so whatever the result is, it should be accurate. I highly recommend that she takes a test.

If she isn't pregnant, then I strongly urge that she get on a second form of birth control. Taking something, like the pill, along with using condoms is much more effective against preventing pregnancy than condoms alone. And remember that there is no form of protection that works 100%, there is always a chance of getting pregnant when having sex. Birth control methods make pregnancy less likely, but not impossible.

If she is pregnant she needs to see her doctor to get blood work done to medically confirm the pregnancy.

To add to what Lizzie said, two days late isn't enough time for it to be a red flag. Periods fluctuate naturally, but it can be due to stress, changes in diet, etc. If you're worried, then have her take a pregnancy test as there is still a chance from just using condoms alone. I recommend getting her on birth control too for better chances at preventing pregnancy. There are options which are long-term and she won't have to remember everyday, such as the IUD.

And here you are living, despite it all.
