Hey,
This is a very personal topic and kind of awkward for me to post but, Ive had a really random period schedule. At first it was pretty heavy, stopped for a year, and now I just have it every 3 months. I had my last one in April. I'm kind of starting to get worried. My mom says it isn't a big deal but lately I've had a lot of spotting. I'd that a bad sign or am I just becoming paranoid? I feel so awkward for posting this... Amanda |

Don't feel awkward :) we're all here to help. My best advice for you: go see a doctor. When I first got my period, I didn't get my next one for about a year and a half :nosweat: the doctors found out I was having difficulty with my hormones and now I'm taking medication now to even out my hormone levels. But as soon as you can, please go see a doctor.

I think it is best to get this checked. It could be nothing, but what if it IS something? Catching any problems early is the best way to make sure they get treated and don't worsen. Even if it isn't a serious problem, if you are comfortable with it, they may want to prescribe you birth control to help regulate your periods some.
While your mom may say it is a big deal, she's not a professional, and a professional would be the one to tell you if it is a problem or not. And, if it is nothing, at least your mind will be eased! And if it is something, at least you took your health seriously and got it checked. :) |

Yeah, I'm a little scared to see a specialist but I know it would help me a lot. My mom isn't comfortable with me going to get checked because she doesn't believe in birth control pills (not that I'm ever getting pregnant any time soon). I don't know how to convince her to take me?

Maybe you can ask your mom about going to your primary care doctor without necessarily telling her why you want to go. I don't condone lying but you might be able to mention some other small reason as to why you want to go if you need to. Once you're at the doctor's office you can ask to be alone in the room with your doctor and they have to allow that. As for birth control, could you tell your mom that you want them solely to help you regulate you period?

I just told my mom that I was concerned about my period and she said "Oh, its fine. It'll sort itself out soon." She has said that for a couple years now. Last time I was at the doctor for a checkup my doct asked me how my period was and I told her it was really irregular and I hadn't had one for a year (earlier) and she seemed concerned and wanted to give me some birth control pills but my mom wouldn't hear any of it. :/ I honestly don't know what to do.

You could kindly point out to her that she said it will work itself out over the years and it hasn't yet. You could also remind her that your doctor was definitely concerned and you would like to go back to the your doctor to explore other options. :) If your mom doesn't want you on birth control perhaps you can explain to her that you aren't interested in sexual activity assuming you aren't.

I don't know if it's an option - but could you just go to the doctors yourself? Make your own appointment, go on your own (on your way to/from school/work?) and see what the doctor says. Then there may be other options if you say your mum isn't happy with the birth control idea, but you won't know until you ask x

Just had my period today so I think I'm okay for right now unless anyone thinks I should still go see a Dr?

Well, if it continues to stay irregular and random like it has been, I think it would be worth it to get it checked, just to make sure there isn't an underlying issue going on. :)

It would probably be beneficial to see a doctor to rule out anything is wrong :) Better safe then sorry.

I think you should still see the doctor even though it came. At least you'll stop worrying about it all the time.
