Missed period but negative pregnancy test? - March 12th 2014, 03:53 AM

I normally get my period every four weeks on either Monday or Tuesday.

It was due to arrive last week. I either completely missed it or it's very late.

But I've taken two pregnancy tests (Friday afternoon and Monday morning) and both were negative.

I'm going to take another on Friday if it still hasn't arrived. Yes, I've been sexually active. Our only mode of birth control this month was the pill, which I took consistently.

Can anyone come up with an explanation for this?

Sometimes your body doesn't give you a period when you would normally expect. This can be caused by all sorts of things (medications, stress, mother nature being a random bitch...)

Give it another week or two, and if you're still not sure then it might be worth getting a blood test. They tend to be more accurate than the urine test.

A number of things can affect when you period come, one of those is stress. If you've been stressing about this then you could delay it. If you've been taking the pill correctly then you wouldn't be pregnant. The pill should stop the egg from being released and therefore unable to be fertilised.

There could be nothing wrong, just a late period or there could be something you might want to get checked out. Nothing to worry about at this stage but after a week or so, if you don't get your period then you might want to go and see a doctor just to make sure nothing is wrong.

Take care.

If you've been taking the pill properly (been taking it at approximately the same time, haven't been sick within two hours of taking it etc.) you're probably fine. Have you been stressed recently? That could be a factor. I'd give it another week or so and then see a doctor.

A major concern I have is that near the beginning of the month my doctor put me on antibiotics for strep throat. She said it wouldn't effect my pills and that it making them ineffective was a rumor perpetuated by the internet, but now coincidentally this month I'm over a week late...

If this is just mother nature being unpredictable, she's a serious bitch.

I've always thought that antibiotics voids out the pill for that month, unless it depends on the type of antibiotics. I would always advise using a condom as well for that month. Either way, you're still getting a negative pregnancy test. Your best bet is to see a doctor and get a more accurate pregnancy test done.

Sometimes when your stressed out or sick it can happen
Also, you may not be regular just yet.
Also, how long has it been since you had sex? Too late for emergency contraceptive.

Re: Missed period but negative pregnancy test? - March 14th 2014, 05:53 AM

I have always heard that medications can effect the way the pill works, my doctor warned me of that when she put me on it. However, You have to remember that the pill and even condoms are not 100 percent effective. They make mistakes too. I was on the pill for 6 months and didn't miss a day. I am now 19 weeks pregnant. So things happen. I however, wouldn't stress. Take the test again in a few days and if your period doesn't come and the test is still negative, than make an appointment with your doctor, and make sure you use condoms next time if you really are negative.
