Period Problems - January 25th 2014, 05:49 PM

In last few months when I've had my period I get a terrible in my stomach which I can handle but also it feels like my body is rejecting the tampons I use which causes the pain the worsen. I've been using tampons for over a year so is it normal that my body sort of rejects them??

I don't think one's body can 'reject' them, of sorts. Unless you're not using them 100% correctly. If they've been inserted right, you shouldn't really be able to feel anything. I don't believe that there is a direct link between the tampons and the stomach pains, though. You could just suffer from quite bad period pains, which you can get some good medication for.

I would suggest trying maybe a different brand or size of tampon, and try inserting it a different way from how you are now. You can find some good tips and techniques online and in the packaging itself, just incase you're doing it slightly wrong. Because as I said, you shouldn't really feel them at all. If all else you can try using pads instead. They're a little less discrete but hopefully they won't cause you discomfort.

Take care.

As mentioned before, you shouldn't feel tampons at all. If they're too large or not put in far enough, you can feel them. When you insert a tampon, you can squat or put one foot up on the toilet. You're supposed to hold it with your thumb and index finger - where that grip is - and it until your fingers touch the outside of your body. Once that happens, you can push the plunger. Also, remember to relax because there is a muscle that will become too tense if you're nervous.

Gentle glide tampons are good, as well as Always Infinity pads. The best way to deal with pain is mediation, although in some people it just has to run it's course. Heating pads are usually quite helpful as well. I'm going to link this thread which shows other ways to relieve period pains.

Thank you for the advice. It turns out that the ones I was using were too large even though I've been using the same ones for a year so switching brands and size has helped
