Doing those dreaded taxes
How do you all go about doing your taxes? I just use H&R Block to do mine. I did that this year with my current job and plan to next time too.

Re: Doing those dreaded taxes
I use whichever tax website is cheapest and do my own taxes. I don’t have anything to claim like a house or something so it’s easy to follow their prompts and do my own.

Re: Doing those dreaded taxes
I do my taxes with an online service that's free. It connects to my previous returns so it's easy to fill out and then submits it to the Government.
Depending on where you are it's important to check what you can and can not claim on your taxes. What tax benefits you could apply to. If the Government has a incentive for low income or those on disability while working, or if you pay for public transportation if they offer a tax rebate as examples. |
Re: Doing those dreaded taxes
My mom and I have a guy. The one who did our entire family's taxes retired after last year so we got a new one this year. They both had day jobs and do/did the tax stuff on the side. The expense is 100% worth it. I just print out the tax forms I get from various sources (W-2, health insurance, student loans etc.) figure out the total for medical expenses and hand them over. He gives them back after a few days with clear instructions of any other things that need done and that's it.

I also just use an online service that is free, the one I use has step by step instructions, so I do not get lost, and I do not have a lot to add into my taxes, which makes it easier.

Re: Doing those dreaded taxes
I pay for one of the online services and do my own. I only pay because I have both full-time income and freelance income, but yeah. I've done my own for my entire working life, I'm actually one of the weird people that enjoy doing their taxes.

Re: Doing those dreaded taxes
I do mine via the government website. Although they offer a service for those with learning difficulties, I tend to prefer doing it myself so I know exactly what I'm filling in. I have quite some time before I need to submit a tax return for the year 2020-2021 and tend to do it in bits because the online form is exceptionally long.

Re: Doing those dreaded taxes
All of this is super insightful and interesting! I may do mine next year by myself instead of the being charged. I just find it easier to have somebody else do it so I do not screw up.
