Sociology project: children's book in poem form. - January 23rd 2018, 02:09 PM

Hi all,

For a Sociology project I have to write a children's book (targeted or 6-8 years) on a topic and I was assigned same sex marriage/relationships. I decided to write my book in poem form and I'd like to share it with you all. The separations indicate the next page (there's five pages).

Any suggestions for illustrations? I have a few ideas (they have to be hand drawn, no Google).

Sometimes love is hard to find
It is not all black and white
We know that all love is kind
We believe it with our might
Everyone can find it, though
Everyone from me to you
Something important to know
is same sex people can love too.

Love is a feeling in your heart
Something that feels so true
A fuzzy feeling is a place to start
It takes away the blues
Love can grace anyone's soul
No matter what sex they are
Who we love isn't in our control
It's not something we choose by far

Think of the love you've felt before
don't you want others to feel it, too?
So when love knocks on your door
It chooses someone just for you
Whether a woman and a woman, man and a man,
They deserve to be united
To walk hand in hand
With their love completely ignited.

When people love intensely
They may wear a ring
That means they feel immensely
about a beautiful thing
They can share their love for all to see
They can share it with whomever
Their happiness is meant to be
As long as they're together

Sometimes love is hard to find
Everyone can feel it from me to you
We know that all love is kind;
Same sex people can love too
Love can grace any soul:
A woman and woman, a man and man
Who we love is out of our control
but we all deserve to walk hand in hand
and wear a sparkly ring
to show our love which is
a beautiful thing.

If clarity's in death, then why won't this die?
Years of tearing down our banners, you and I
Living for the thrill of hitting you where it hurts
Give me back my girlhood, it was mine first

I absolutely loved this! It was beautiful.

I kind of suck at being creative but for one drawing you might be able to do people holding hands? Maybe just two hands clasped (I don't know how good you are with drawing so that might be difficult). Maybe you could include that at the end? As the last picture. Also, the only other thought is including a ring or something in one of the pages where you talk about a ring?

Hopefully someone else comes along with better illustration ideas.

This was amazing, especially the flow and easiness of the poem. The diction is clear and concise which makes it great for a children's book!

Hey there,
I really love this poem. It's cute, informative and beautiful!

I have to go and dont have much access to internet but I will try to share my thoughts on what each page can look like.

Quote:

We believe it with our might
Everyone can find it, though
Everyone from me to you
Something important to know
is same sex people can love too.
Maybe this page can have general love, such as family, human with pet and between friends. Because this sounds like it is showing different kinds of love. Or like capturing the emotion of what love and care looks like.

It takes away the blues
Love can grace anyone's soul
No matter what sex they are
Who we love isn't in our control
It's not something we choose by far

Maybe here there can an opposite-sex couple on one side and then a same-sex couple on the other side doing parallel loving things for each other, ie: hugging, eating dinner together

Maybe here a same-sex couple can walk holding hands

something about a ring :P

i'm not sure xD

this is really good to let the children know that love does have the same values and benefits which makes us feel the way they do, whatever kind of love or whether they are opposite genders or two of the same

I really love the suggestions for illustrations already given but I just want to say I enjoy how this was written and I think it is easy to understand.

I love this so much! I'm not really great with the illustration side of things, but I think whatever you come up with will be fantastic.

Thank you for the suggestions and feedback! I have completed my book and I am not great at drawing but I think my images came out okay. I want to see if I can take some pictures and post them to the thread soon.

One thing I hate is when college professors ask us/require us to 'draw' especially when it isn't an art class. My drawings come out terribly. I imagine yours probably look good though.

If you are able to post them that would be great but I know sometimes technology likes to misbehave.

THIS IS AMAZING!
You honestly have such amazing talent. I love that your school had an option for Same Sex Marriage. You did so well! I hope to see pictures!

All right guys, here’s my book. The front and back covers have personal information so they’re not pictured here but my book is going to be called “Love: A Beautiful Thing”.

It was hard to take the pictures so not all the images show my hand drawn pictures very well if at all.
