Sirens (poem) -
July 30th 2014, 04:55 AM
This thread has been labeled as triggering by the original poster or by a Moderator. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.
(I put this as triggering just to be sure. It shouldn't be too bad, but you never know! Better safe than sorry!)
Sirens:
I find it interesting
That in today’s society
Sirens,
Police, ambulance, fire truck sirens,
Are thought of as a nuisance
And an inconvenience.
Honestly, whenever you’re driving
And have to pull over for an emergency vehicle,
You get annoyed.
You sigh.
You complain.
You don’t want to do it.
When you’re trying to sleep in the middle of the night
And the cops drive by.
The siren fills the air
And your room becomes filled
With flashing red and blue lights.
You sigh and put your pillow over your head,
Trying to block out the sound
So you can sleep.
When you’re talking or walking
With your friends or family
And what you're about to do is interrupted
By a wailing and a honking
And the sound of a speeding vehicle,
You get pissed and curse the sirens.
We hate sirens. We despise them.
They’re loud and annoying and unnecessary.
But one thing that we as a society are forgetting
Is where those sirens are going.
Every cop car, ambulance, and fire truck
Is on their way to save someone’s life,
To enforce the law and protect YOU.
Someone, somewhere NEEDS that vehicle to arrive.
They’re depending on it.
They need the cops when a burglar breaks in.
They need an ambulance when they have a heart attack.
They need a fire truck when their home is on fire.
People are depending on these sirens to save them.
If they don’t show up, someone’s whole world could end.
They could loose everything, including their life.
To them, sirens are a gift from the gods
And their savior.
Odds are, the person needing help isn’t you.
But what if it was?
The siren you were just grunting at is the siren you now need.
You are dying, or someone you love is.
You want that car, ambulance, or truck to get there as fast as you can
And to be as loud as it can so you know you’re being saved.
Sirens help people and save lives.
Yes, they are annoying.
But they’re necessary.
So next time, when you hear the sound and see the lights,
Don’t think about how annoying it is.
Think about how someone, somewhere is hurt or in trouble.
Be concerned for them.
Something horrible is happening near you and you should be concerned.
Not annoyed that sirens are interrupting your nice, quiet life.
It’s sirens that allow you to live it.

I haven’t posted a poem in a while, mainly because I haven’t had any inspiration. But a few days ago, I was in the shower, heard police sirens, got annoyed, and had this sudden thought. I know I’m guilty of thinking sirens are annoying, but they do help and save lives and we should appreciate that.
Savvy?
