Back Again (Poem)
 

At first I thought that I'd be great
And I would never have to wait.
I gave it my all and sang out my heart
Doing everything I could to get the part.

I was good, I was grand.
I was holding my dream in palm hand.
But it slipped, out of sight, out of mind.
And I, once again, ended up behind.

Behind the leads, the phoney smiles.
Acing inside all the while.
Behind the props, so masterfully made
Feeling used, and even betrayed.

Behind the stage, it's all the same.
Waiting for my fifteen minutes of fame.
Behind a wall, and behind a door
Forever wanting so much more.

Will by name ever be next to the lead?

This is about how I keep getting in the background of musicals, even though I'm ready to break out and be a lead. Or a supporting at least. I know I'm talented enough to be. So why aren't I? I'm sick of saying "I'm in the ensemble." It hurts me each time. There's nothing wrong with it, I'm just tired of it. It's basically the same experience every time, no matter the show.

Thanks guys! I had an audition today and I thought it was good! I wasn't called back for anything tho, which worries me. I don't want a lead this time around. I just don't want to be tree #3 standing behind a prop or something. I know I'm so much better then that. I'll know what part I'm playing on Wednesday. :D
