The struggles of getting my meds -
May 4th 2021, 02:48 AM
I had such a hard time getting my Lamictal filled this time around, wow. Of course, it's a medication that if stopped abruptly can cause life-threatening withdrawals. It's also the type of medication where once you stop taking it you have to taper back up to the dose that you are on instead of going straight back to the old dose because if not it can be dangerous. :/
Apparently there were technical difficulties all around. I'd emailed her a few times asking for a refill but apparently the emails kept getting sent to her junk mail. Am I the only person who checks their junk mail daily and keeps that folder clean because sometimes important things get sent there?? She also apparently sent in a refill request for me days before that never went through. I'm inclined to believe that part because we've had issues with that before. But ugh, several emails going to junk. She also requested bloodwork online and that never went through either. Like wtf.
I took my last Lamictal today. So I call CVS and ask if they will give me an emergency supply and they said no because the pharmacist on duty only does it for blood pressure meds. So I had to get out of work and make an appointment with a walk-in clinic and pay for a Lyft there just to get a 10-day emergency supply of a medication I could have had refilled and delivered days ago. Then while waiting for it to fill I bought Wendy's and then bought a few other things from CVS, so I spent much more money than I intended to. Picked up my 10-day supply, and then had to wait 21 minutes for the nearest Uber driver (Lyft had none available at all) and, of course, pay for that too.
I was supposed to go to the laundromat to clean the guinea pig stuff today and couldn't due to this fiasco and now I'm freaking out about them possibly getting sick because i'm late on doing the deep clean and now can't go to the laundromat until Wednesday due to obligations tomorrow. I've only been able to spot clean. They're very sensitive animals. :/
God, I just wanted my medsssss.

Hey Dez, sorry to hear you had to go through so much struggle just to get your medication. Seems like it's difficult to get in touch with your doc via email I, for instance, write emails to the clinic's reception/office, they ask my doc for my prescription and then email it back to me. The doctor is a GP, but she can prescribe specialised meds for me because I had brought them the documentation of my medical treatment from the psychiatrist. The clinic encourages this especially during the pandemic, because I don't need to visit the GP myself - I only need the prescription - so they agreed to such an arrangement.
Maybe you could think of something similar to get your med supplies regularly?
Btw I'm sure your guinea pigs will be fine <3 You care for them so well already!

This all sounds really frustrating, and actually really dangerous too. You're definitely not the only one checking junk mail, and I would have thought that this person would have done the same thing because it happens sometimes. I'm sorry you've had to deal with all of this. I am glad you managed to get an emergency supply of meds, even if it meant a huge disruption to your day and a lot of money being spent.
I am sure your guinea pigs will be absolutely fine. Even sensitive animals can be surprisingly resilient, and like Sue has said, you take such good care of them as it is. You wouldn't be able to take care of them as well as you do if you weren't taking care of yourself first, so today was important, and I am so sure they're going to be okay. It's just another stress that you didn't need, which always sucks.
I hope you're doing okay.

Hello Dez,
I am so sorry that you we're having a hard time with this and I hope that you are doing okay now. If this happens again try to stay calm and look through all of your emails to see if you have it from them, if not try to call them for help and say how you do not have this and hopefully they can help you out. This is upsetting when this happens and I hope that this doesn't happen again to you. Always try to stay calm when something is happening so that you are able to try to figure out what to do. I wish you the best with this and everything else, sending you to help you.
