City or a country person? - June 1st 2023, 07:42 PM

Are you a city or a country person?

I'm a city person. I need things around me, like restaurants, coffee shops, stores.

Honestly, I've always lived in a big city, but wanted to live in the countryside. I really dream of living in the countryside one day. I've never had this experience, though, so I don't know if I would love it or if I'd miss the city's convenient access to shops, cafes, restaurants, meeting people etc.

I've always lived in the city. I'm about half an hour from central London. I like it in some ways but I'd love living in the country where there's more green space, wildlife and the like. I think I'd want to live in a town or village so there's still access to shops if needed, but where I wouldn't have to walk too far to get to the country.

While I've only ever lived in suburbs of moderately sized cities, I'm definitely a big city person. It's been a dream of mine to move to Chicago since I first visited roughly 8 years ago. Something about the chaos and constant activity of city life really calms me down and helps me think more clearly.

I've always lived in the suburbs that have been close to cities.

I’ve always lived in the city and don’t think I’d like to live in the country.

I’ve always lived in the country but want to try to live in the city at some point in my life. It is kind of inconvenient having to drive 20 minutes to the nearest town with maybe 9 or 10 chain retail stores and restaurants. It’s a 50 minute drive for me to the next biggest city.

Re: City or a country person? - June 9th 2023, 09:48 PM

I live in a suburb about 20mins from the main town/city and I quite like it as there’s shops near by like superstore etc which has a clothing store attached to it, there’s also a small high street with a few shops too. But it’s also nice being away from the main town and city as it’s quieter but I’m close enough that if I need to go into the town/city I can as there’s like really good transport links buses and trains etc. I also get the best of both as the suburb I’m in like also is 20 mins from the countryside too . However I don’t often feel the need to go to the countryside as I live a 15 min walk from a nature reserve and as soon as I step outside my door there’s a park opposite me. I like being where I live, it’s not busy but it’s not sooo quiet like the countryside but it’s quiet enough that I can enjoy the area I live in.

Re: City or a country person? - June 11th 2023, 03:39 AM

Love this question. I've been lucky enough to live in all 3 "types" of areas: Large City (Chicago), Country-town of less than 5,000 people, and mid-size suburbs (20-50K people). There are so many pros and cons to each. I loved the country-vibe, the small town feel. The ability to get to know everyone, know all the "spots", get to know your favorite server at the local restaurant. But I've also loved the thrill of the city - always something to see, always something to do, new experiences every day.

I've landed in the suburbs as a my sweet spot. Having the ability to go to the city whenever needed, but also having a safe, comfortable place to go home to, where you know your neighbors and have community events. Truly a mid-western suburban vibe. I live for that.

I was born and raised in a suburban town on the outskirts of a city. Suburban life is all I've ever known. I wouldn't be able to live in the country for many reasons. The city is too noisy for me, there's too much going on, it's not as safe living in the city as it would be in the suburbs. Plus, you have more of a neighborly vibe in the suburbs.

So, I choose neither the city nor the country. But I do enjoy going to the city when I get a chance.

Suburbs. I live not too far from town and around 30 minutes away from the city. I do like visiting the city and the shops etc., but I also love the countryside and am surrounded by farms and wooded areas. I like the countryside but since I can't drive, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to live in the country. So suburbs is a good mixture for me
