World Humanitarian Day - August 19th 2021, 12:46 PM

World Humanitarian Day is a day used to help raise awareness of humanitarian aid worldwide. Each year, World Humanitarian Day focuses on a specific theme that aims to create global recognition in relation to humanitarian aid workers, as well as those who've been affected by crises in one way or another.

This year's theme focuses on the cost of human life due to climate change.

Have you ever been involved with humanitarian aid work? Or perhaps been affected by climate change in some way?

Admittedly I haven't ever been involved with humanitarian aid, nor have I been affected by climate change. I do however, keep up with information related to the subject. For example, recently it was noted that Sweden's only remaining mountain glacier shrunk by 2 metres in a single year due to rising temperatures. While it may not seem like much, it's a good example of just how much the planet is warming up. I tend to try and keep my carbon footprint down by taking the bus (especially since I don't drive), walk, or use other forms of public transport. I also like to try and recycle as much as I possibly can, and often favour renewable energy sources when available. I also like to try and keep my energy consumption low, so turn lights off and other devices when I know I won't be using them. Only use appliances when I need to, and put clothes out to dry in the sun to save electricity on the dryer.

For those who doesn't know what Carbon Footprint refers to, it's the amount of emissions and energy consumption a person generates. It also directly relates to climate change. You can find more information on this, as well as a carbon footprint calculator here.
