Happy 23 years of TeenHelp! -
July 13th 2021, 10:16 PM
I was 20 years old when I first came to this site. It's crazy to think I've been here 10 years. I know others have been here for perhaps even twice that much.
I remember going through issues with a boyfriend and I just felt really miserable. He was terribly suffocating and I was planning to split with him but I didn't know how. I also wanted to find a site for young people where I could apply my knowledge and experience of depression and suicide with other people. I started googling around and two sites looked really good. In the end I chose TeenHelp over the other because this one seemed more professional and supportive. I'm glad I stayed because this site has truly been extremely supportive. Sometimes I don't know how people have put up with my excessive amount of 'Why me?' threads.
Since being here I've held a few different staff positions, having been on staff shortly after I'd joined. After leaving in 2015, re-joining earlier this year definitely felt like the right thing to do, and at the right time. My personal issues have significantly improved. I'm doing far better emotionally, and I have a decent job (most of the time...). Being here for 10 years has lead me to see so many people come and go from the site, but so many who have also chosen to stay. This place has always felt like my 2nd home. I go here to unwind and just get things off my chest, and to gain the opinions and perspective on matters that are different from my own.
I can safely say that TeenHelp has always been a huge part of these past 10 years, and I hope there will be many more.
How about you? Why did you sign up to TeenHelp? Why have you chosen to stay?

Happy birthday TH!
I signed up due to problems with self harm and depression, but fell in love with the people. I've met a lot of wonderful people here, some of which I've talked to for years, even after they themselves have left. I also love being on staff.

Well, happy birthday TeenHelp!
The site was created when I was actually well within the target age demographic! However, I didn't sign up back then and I really wish I'd discovered it much earlier than I did. A friend, who had just started college and was going through a rough time, did a Google search and came across this website.
A decade or so later, and I'm still here. It reminds me of the old-school method of online interaction.
You don't come across that anymore thanks to Social Media and it's really gutting as someone who likes to keep things traditional.

Happy Birthday TH!
It's crazy to think it's been 23 years. I joined 17 years ago, and I originally came here I think just seeking a community, really, I was struggling with some feelings of what I thought at the time was depression, and now know was trauma and anxiety and just needed a place that I felt safe. I stayed for that exact community that I found, and I have enjoyed giving back as much as possible over the years - including in pretty much every Staff role at this point. It's such a wonderful, safe, place and I'm incredibly thankful for my time here and the relationships I've built.

Happy Birthday Teenhelp!
I joined when I was 15 and that's when my father almost passed away, ended up in a wheelchair and everything changed. I love helping on teenhelp so much. Anyone can come on who needs help with anything they are going through and we get to help them, so they will be ok soon. It is wonderful that teenhelp has been going on for so long and helping out so many people.

Yay, happy birthday TeenHelp!!
I joined in 2011 when I was 15, and I'm still here 10 years on. I joined out of curiosity and stayed because of the people. Over the years here I've spoken to so many amazing people and learnt so much, I've made new friends and seen so many people come and go, but I feel like I'm too settled here now to go anywhere. I've joined other forums, and none of them give me the same feeling that TH does.

Happy Birthday, TeenHelp!
I joined when I was 15/16 and struggling with a relationship break-up. I also had other issues going on as well. I wasn't a regular- I just popped in to vent by writing really long threads without any paragraphs
I then became interested in psychology and mental health and when I had graduated from uni, and had more free time, I found myself lingering on TeenHelp. I decided to help out and use my knowledge and experience and then became a volunteer as a HelpLINK mentor. I stayed because I enjoyed helping others and am still here now

I originally joined August 1, 2006. I was 16 years old. that was 15 year ago! I have spent half my life as a member on here. *insert feeling old*
Even if I leave for a bit I will always come back. TH has a place in my heart as it's rescued me SO many times and I want to return the 'favour'.
I have held basically every role on TH at one point or another. I have also made some life-long friendships here.
Happy Birthday TH, thank you for everything!

Happy 23rd birthday Teenhelp!
I first joined at 14, just to be able to talk to people about similar issues I was going through at the time, but then I left and I believe the website crashed not to long after that. I then rejoined when I was 16 because I was diagnosed with OCD and depression and remembered the support I got 2 years earlier and I have been here every since.

I joined TeenHelp 4 years ago. I had stumbled upon the forums while searching for help through severe depressive episodes. I posted once or twice describing my problems and, surprised as I was at the extensive and caring replies, I didn't expect to stay on TH for long. But something made me come back repeatedly and at some point I just stayed TH is a safe space for me, a place where I can talk about my problems without fear of being judged. And it's a place to express myself and share my thoughts, be it about unpleasant events in my life, wonderful days or even music I've been listening to :P I'm glad I could join Staff a few months ago - I contribute to the site that has given me a lot over the past few years, and I'm happy to give something back.
Happy birthday TH!
