Love Locks - June 6th 2021, 07:59 PM

Something I notice that trends amongst younger people is buying a lock, etching you and your partner on the lock, and attaching it to a bridge/fence somewhere.

In my town there's a walkway with a sort of metal grating barrier, and maybe in the last 2-3 years, there's been a significant rise in people attaching locks to it.

Maybe I'm such a buzzkill when it comes to this sort of thing but I cannot for the life of me, imagine ever doing that. Plus I've seen that after a while, someone has to be hired and physically bolt cut them off anyway because the weight of the metal locks begins to amass and can cause structural damage.

With that said, I understand the sentiment of a love lock. It's like saying your love is locked for one person, and one person alone - the person etched into the lock.

Have you ever purchased a love lock with a partner? If so, what made you decide upon it?

I've personally have never gotten a love lock with my boyfriend because as you mentioned, I don't want to be a contributor to the weight of the bridge collapsing.

I've definitely seen and heard of love locks. It's not really for me, but I guess I can understand the sentiment of it. It reminds me a bit of etching names into trees when I was at school, which is something I saw a lot of people in my classes do.

I can see why some people do this but it certainly isn’t something I’ve ever thought about doing ... bit too clingy for me
