Is this tattoo childish? -
March 5th 2011, 07:35 PM
I am looking into tattoos again and I have gone off my memorial tattoo idea for know. My Nan and my Mum are arguing a lot at the moment so I am going to wait for a while and see what the relationship with my Nan is like in a year or two before I get the memorial tattoo that incorporates her, my uncle and my grandad because I don't want to regret it.
My other tattoo idea was the enchanted rose from Beauty and the Beast. Beauty and the Beast has always been my favourite film and I love the story and morals to it. To me the rose in the film represents that life is short and you should tell people you love them while you still have the chance.
I was looking at different pictures of the rose and I would probably get this one
With just the rose within the first circle so it would look like this (but it would be identical to the one above, this one is someone's drawing of it which is slightly different.)
I have chose the stained glass rose because I think the rose from the film looks childish and odd. Like this:
The stained glass rose isn't obviously from the film either but is something different to a normal rose tattoo. It is also something I can build on.
Is getting any Disney tattoo childish?
Opinions?

I don't think it is as long as you want it done. Disney's a part of a lot of people's childhood so it's something significant
I think the rose is pretty by the way

I like the stained glass look better than the rose in the glass bell thinger, personally. It's more aesthetically appealing, even if just the stained glass style rose, without the background?

I don't think it is childish. It has a very special meaning to you and I think it's really pretty.

The more I think about it the more I like it. I just need to save up some money and I think I will wait a few more months just to be sure. I will probably get ti for my birthday in August.
Looking at it it's not that childish. I mean I could get something like these:
This ones pretty cute but I would never get it myself.
I think I prefer the rose up there because it is more subtle.

I don't think it's childish at all.
At least you picked a good movie to base it off of! (:

I think it's a great idea. I like that you've thought about why you want it and how to make it 'you'.

Agreeing with most people, I don't think it's necessarily childish. Getting a character from the movie, that would worry me. Think long and hard about the colors, though, and placement. Just advice. And make sure you want it. It will never, ever go away. Will Beauty and the Beast always be what you want represented on your body?
If you love it, go for it!

When it comes to tattoos I don't think it really matters what other people think of it because as long as it's special and significant to you then that's all that matters. I don't think it's childish at all! Disney films play a big part in a lot of kids childhoods and therefore they take away great memories from them. I think you should get whatever you like the best rather than what everyone else thinks looks best.

I would get the colours the same as it is in the film if the tattoo artists can do it. I would mind having to go up for touch ups on the colours now and again as I know they fade.
I will probably get it placed at the base of my neck/top of my back in the centre like here:
I have had this idea for years now and I wanted the other tattoo first but now I am doubting that idea. Like I said in my first post I will wait a bit longer to decide and be 100% sure.
One of the things I like about it is if I did ever not like Beauty and the Beast it is subtle enough to still live with. Also like I said in my first post it represents a lot more to me other than being my favourite film and it would still have those meanings even if I didn't like the film any more (which I doubt will happen really).

It sounds like you've really thought it out! Good for you. In that case, I say give it the time you've allotted and go for it! My only concern with the colors is that as dark as the blue is, it may be hard to get the stained glass effect. But, again, a tattoo artist could tell you more!

As long as the tattoo is significant to your life, then fuck everybody else. I do think it is a bit tacky though, but do what your heart thinks...that shit won't come off without a lot of money. lol
