Your Tattoo Experience -
January 9th 2009, 11:21 AM
Well I've heard different opinions on how much getting a tattoo hurt so I was wondering where it hurt most. Post where you got the tattoo and on a scale of 1-10 how bad it hurt.
I don't have a tattoo myself but I'd love to get one in the future so I just want to know what to expect. My mum said it didn't hurt her at all and just felt like someone was drawing on her with a pen but my friend said it really hurt him.

I've got one on the back of my neck.
Didn't really hurt. At first there was a slight sting but after abit I got used to it. So about a 4
It all depends on the placing and how much pain each person can take.

the best way I can explain it is a kitten scratching you or ant bites.
lower back-I fell asleep while he was doing it
upper back- was talking the entire time
side/ribs-annoying but not bad
chest- I sat and watched the goonies while those were getting done. It was weird though because I am extremely bony the entire thing was on bone and I felt the vibrations all through my upper body
shoulder piece- It took a few sitting for that one, and what hurt the worst was one of the petals on the big flower on my back close to my armpit , that was tender.
my arm- didnt hurt AT ALL and the guy was even trying to hurt me. lol The artists were talking about how with all of my tattoos none of them had ever seen me flinch so twenty bucks goes to the guy who does the first tattoo on me that hurts really bad in that shop.

It can also depend on your pain threshold. My tattoos, (arm & shoulder) didnt hurt a bit. At first it felt wierd, but after a few minutes it just didnt hurt.

Neither of mine hurt, I've just started to have the outline of a sleeve done, a lot of depends on how good your tattooist is, the tattooist I go to has never made me flinch, but my first one really hurt because he went too deep. I'd liken it to a quick prick with a needle then just warmness.

my wrist vs. friends wrist--
me: didn't hurt at all. Just vibration.
Her: complained and teared up =/
Shoulder--bearable. When she went around my arm (not all the way around) it stung because that's a sensitive area. I just focused on my breathing and talking to her. My shoulder bone didn't hurt just vibrated. I actually laughed at that.
I'll also add my I've really gotten to know my artist first. It helps to get to know your artist so that it's more comfortable and less painful.
I'm getting the color done very soon too. She's going back over it all one more time. I also have a very high pain tolerance I'm told.

I got mine on my shoulder. It didn't really hurt at all.. I'd say maybe a 3? It hurt the most when they did the shading since it's done over parts that have already been tattooed.

I got my first tattoo on my left wrist.
I hate needles .. =/
I thought it was quite sore.
I would have fainted if I hadn't have been siting down.
The tattooist didn't do it properly.
It got infected and took ages to heal.
then I realised that there is a bit missing.
It's two hearts linked together and there's a white bit where the tattooist obviously didn't colour it in.
But I am currently planning my next tattoo..
Not going to that tattoist again tho lol
Life is too short to be anything other than happy all the time ..
Life is great!

That is why you should do research on the shop you choose, meet the tattoo artist beforehand, and look at the shops certificates. If I don't know who the person is, they aren't coming near me with a needle.
I have a great relationship with my tattoo artist.

I have one on my hip area. It hurt but it was bearable enough to count the tiles on the ceiling so I didn't think of the pain but when he started to do where the bone was, it hurt a lot more and wasn't as easy to take my mind off. My leg started to tap loads both out of nerves/pain and I had to try and stop it because it was distracting the guy.
On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd say it was about a 7.
