For UK: Royal Mail Scam!

BBC News (Business) a warning about scammers. So it was no surprise to her when she got a message from 'Royal Mail' in her phone's inbox. She suspected it was a scam only because she wasn't expecting a parcel from them. A few minutes ago she was reading BBC News online and saw this warning. Unfortunately scams like this are quite common, and I think have even increased by quite a bit over the course of the pandemic. Thank you for sharing and making people aware. I am sure this will prevent someone from unknowingly clicking on a link which could be harmful. :)

While I haven't received anything from Royal Mail yet, I have had fake phone calls with a super old automated voice that states I need to 'press 1 to speak to an officer'. The number always came from a mobile phone. Obviously not legitimate. I've also had a text message about how my Apple account got revoked and that I need to enter my bank details to reclaim it. I don't even have an Apple account. :rolleyes:
With everything going on right now, it's no wonder so many people have seized the opportunity to try and scam others. Absolutely shameful! I've also noticed a lot of scalping behaviour online as well (buying products that would normally be cheap and selling them for 4-5x the price). Hand sanitiser that used to sell for 99p was selling for £4.99 a bottle. 10 disposable masks are selling for £3.99. Home workout equipment has risen over 1000% in some cases. I bought a set of £29.99 30kg weights way before the pandemic, now they cost well over £120 for the exact same thing. Lidl also sold 4-6kg kettlebells for £3.99 and suddenly there were masses of them being sold for £24.99 on eBay. There are so many people out there with very little money right now. It's astonishing how many people don't seem to care and are willing to take advantage. Even though your link is meant for the UK, I'm sure it's still beneficial to those in other countries. It still raises awareness that this sort of behaviour is still happening and in a similar manner, so I'm sure someone will appreciate it. :) |

A few months ago, I got a text from 'Royal Mail' saying something I ordered hadn't been delivered and had been sent back to the depot and for me to click on a link to rearrange delivery. Even though it got me thinking, I realised it must be a scam because I hadn't ordered anything. It was convincing though!

Wendi always uses Royal Mail SignedFor® which, though doesn't always provide a tracked service (think Amazon), provides her with confirmation of delivery, ensuring her gear isn't nicked by some light-fingered postman.

Scams unfortunately always happen. I've received a number of scam text messages and phone calls but I always ignore them.

Scams have been around for as long as telecommunications have existed.
It's important to be mindful and identify the difference between scam vs legit. |
