Looks like Spain are trying to cheat their way to another success.

Not been impressed with Webb, two of them were either 50/50 or dives

i'd like to see spain win but i wouldn't be too upset if Holland won.
they've only been playing 10 minutes so i'll reserve judgement on Webb..

Re: World Cup - July 11th 2010, 09:20 PM

lets hope for penalties!
what's the betting that torres comes on and scores the winning goal?
Howard Webb has done well. he's had a hard game to manage (and that's just so far!) but he's coped well and although some of the cards could have been questionable, no stupid mistakes or blatant wrong decisions!
extra time is going to be exciting. could be a sending off to come i'm thinking, especially with quite a few on yellows!

Paul the octopus was right. Spain thoroughly deserve it! It's nice the see the best team in the world actually win. Holland approached the game all wrong.. WELL DONE SPAIN!!

How did the Dutch approach it wrong. A few tackles were over the top but Spain went down far too easily under heavy tackles.

If that's the way football is going then it wll be non-contact by 2014

They didn't think they could beat spain playing football so they just tried to stop them and be overly aggressive/dirty. they're lucky they didn't have 9 men by half time.. a lot of refs would have been a lot harsher. it's a victory for football.. they played with flare and it's exciting to watch. the better team won.

what?! they (in particular Holland) are lucky they didn't get more!.. and even more lucky they didn't get more reds. could have easily been down to 9 men at half time. the ref handled it well, he may have made a suspect decision before the goal BUT Holland can hardly complain when all they did was kick Spain for the whole game before that..

Holland are bad sports and the way they conducted themselves at the end shows that. screaming at the ref afterwards won't do anything other than make you look like a bad loser. they need to get over it and realise they weren't good enough to win the world cup.

Oh, I agree they could have done worse, and that they're bad losers. I meant the amount of cards was insane in that Holland shouldn't have played so badly to get so many.

Spain didn't play with flair, they passed it around midfield for 100 minutes.

I agree the Dutch didn't think they could play so they decided they'd be hard on Spain which was a good tactic. Webb did a good job but he missed a lot of Spanish diving all over the place

they did play with flair. they play like no other country do, they're not afraid to stick to what they do best, whoever they're playing. they did the same against Germany.. took it to the them and it paid off. if Holland won by playing like they did i would have been disappointed.

a good tactic? what??.. lol. sorry but i don't see how you can say that's good. they have decent players who CAN play football but they decided to throw that out the window and hack their way to victory which just doesn't work when you're playing a team like Spain.

he missed a few Spanish dives, fair enough.. but no ref is perfect and he went a little too easy on a few dutch challenges so it evens out.

Four 1-0 wins says it all really. They held it up in midfield and when scored sat back on their lead. Reminded me of 90s Arsenal.

It was a good tactic, if Spain are better technical players then the Dutch should, and did, be physical with Spain. The problem is that the game has been weighted in favour of forwards for years and now tackling is largely frowned upon-look at the new ball and goalkeeping errors

tackling isn't frowned upon, fouling is frowned upon. there is a difference.

we're not going to agree.. but i'm very happy Spain won!

No, not at all. I agree with Elle here... and anyway, the team who should win the world cup should be the team that's best at football, not the team who can "be physical". I am glad Spain won, I thought they really deserved it since they were the best team (which is what it is all about) and it was a good goal

Bloody yellow cards what the heck is wrong with the ref.
Spain had more drives than Holland and played fair #11 from Holland was going crazy.Paul deserves to be honored too. Great birthday gift for me.

I was pushing for The Netherlands to win the final, but after watching the first half-hour, it was obvious that Spain was the better of the two teams. Frankly, I was surprised that it took over 90 minutes for a goal to be scored.
