Training plan for the next 2 months -
November 13th 2020, 11:59 AM
Dear TeenHelpers,
I've neglected my physical condition during the lockdown and I can already feel my body protesting against hunching in front of the computer every day. Since I haven't exercised regularly for a long time it's really hard to motivate myself and so I decided to create a thread on here. I'm gonna post here saying whether I've completed each planned training or not - I think I'm gonna be more motivated - I'd feel silly posting each day saying I haven't exercised, so I'll have to do it
The perfect plan for one week is: 3x training, 2x stretching. If it's too much I'm gonna replace one training with stretching. I adjusted training days to my current work/uni schedule.
My goal isn't losing weight but getting fitter for the sake of my health. I've always dreamed of being able to do the split, so I'd love to achieve that too. For now - 8 weeks. We'll see what happens next.
Wish me the best of luck
xx S

That's great. Making a plan is the first step. Start with a small goal the first day so you don't get overwhelmed and give up. Maybe the first day just 30 min of stretching only. You got this. Keep going.

You’ve got this! Maybe you can look up some fun exercises on google so it doesn’t become too repetitive. It may help you stay with it.

Fitness - Youtube vids, I just switch between different types of training. Stretching - I attend online classes with a belly dance teacher I've known for a long time. She's super flexible and conducts stretching classes as well.

I completely understand you, I have the same goal myself. I used to think that you can't force yourself, do something, you only need to do what you like, but it won't work out that way. Sport for me is not something cool, it's just what you need. You need to fight your laziness

I forgot to post here last Monday. I didn't complete the training plan last week because of Christmas preparations, but I did exercise. Same with this week - I've only managed two trainings instead of three + stretching, but it's okay because I didn't have time during the holidays. I'm coming back home tomorrow and I'm going to complete the whole routine next week.
I'm not finding them easier, but I hope I will soon.

Take all the time you need. The holidays are rough on a lot of people. Don't force yourself to train again if you're not ready.

I went running in the forest today. I'd never tried running before, but I wanted to give it a go and even bought proper shoes (I'm gonna use them for fitness anyways, because my old ones are worn-out). I wasn't able to run a long distance, but I hadn't expected it anyway. I'll try to run regularly and we'll see how it goes.

I've gone running four times in total since my last post.
What's more, I've bought a sports watch that I had really wanted. It came yesterday and today I'm going to try it out. I'll either do some cardio or some muscle-strengthening exercises.

They're okay, I've been doing their trainings for a long time so I know what they're like. I've had a medical treatment today and I had thought I would be able to train soon, but the doctor said I no straining physical activity for 1-2 weeks. I guess I'll stay with stretching.

My recent activity has been on a satisfying level, but I aim for more. It's just so difficult to motivate myself now that I have to work out at home - gyms and even open-air sports courts are all closed.
It's likely I'll be taking running exams in the summer, so I think it's high time I start preparing. My current time is 3.40 mins and I need to reduce it to 2.

Could you do independent training? I totally get that it's best to have a trainer supporting you, giving you instructions, assisting when needed; but if you are feeling "meh" and really want to prepare for this run, why not go do training yourself?
I hope you've been feeling better after your procedure. Do you notice moving around to be easier or more difficult?

Well yes I train on my own. It's just that it's sometimes hard to motivate myself to start the workout.
It was a skin treatment and a minor one, so it didn't have anything to do with moving Fortunately everything I need to move is healthy

I would like to start physical therapy studies in autumn, but in order to get into the chosen uni I'll have to complete some endurance tests. The first one is a 800m run (my current time is 4.20 mins, I'm aiming for 3.20). The second one is a 50m swim. As swimming pools have been closed for months in my country, I have no idea what my current time would be. I can swim, but I've never done it with a timer. I hope the pools open at least a month before the tests, which are at the beginning of July.

Update 291 days after creating this thread
During summer holidays I've been travelling on and off, so I didn't exercise regularly. I bought a gym membership on Monday (the last time I had been to the gym was before the pandemic... lol!). I've hit the gym two times since Monday and I'm happy to have come back - exercising at home is completely different (and worse, I dare say).

I still can't do the split. I had been stretching from November till January or so... I'm so impatient and stretching seems boring to me. Maybe I'll be able to do the split one day...

Took the tests in July. Results: running - 3.14 (great) and swimming - 45.9 (good enough).
I had never practised running before I had to in order to train for the tests. I didn't like it at the beginning, but with time I got used to it as a regular exercise. However, I started experiencing knee pains. I visited a doc and they said I can't run because some kind of tissue inside my knees is deteriorating. I didn't think I would ever say this, but... now that I can't run I miss it. Especially its main advantage: the outdoors. I can't really perform gym exercises outdoors, especially ones involving machines. So while gym is great for autumn/winter, running is fantastic for spring/summer to get some of that fresh air.
