Getting started before college
I'm 13 and some of you might think I'm a little young to start thinking about this stuff but I just want to get started early and not have to wait till college to learn a lot of things that I could be learning now.
I've really been into game modifications and stuff like that for about a year now but, I don't really have any knowledge on coding my own mods for games so I need someone to help me start coding or getting to know stuff. I already know what I want to do when I turn 17, I want my job to be in Computer Science or Cyber Security (this is not one of those things like I want to be this when I grow up and think that it was stupid this is what I want to do) but I don't really know a lot. If anyone that has had experience in these kinds of things or similar to it, please reply to this post and tell me how I can get started. Just a side note I have had someone teach me a lot of things in Java and C++. |

I've moved this over to Education and Careers. My friend showed me codeacademy.com and it was a great resource for learning how to code, so I recommend checking that out!

It's never too early to think about what you want to do in life! I also admire your enthusiasm for wanting to learn about code now rather than later.
Codeacadamy is definitely a good resources, as is Scratch. I take it your school doesn't teach coding? If not, try looking for online courses which teach coding, such as coursera or futurelearn. Are there universities/colleges in your area? Try looking on their websites as they may offer taster days in coding or computer science. It's often aimed at those who are about to start applying to university, but I'm sure anyone else can go along too. Hope this helped a bit! :) |

You can also find out if your high school offers any distance courses for students who want to learn something that your high school doesn't offer or you can see if your library or local community college offer courses that you can take on your own

Never a horrible idea to start thinking about the future, doesn't do start stressing about it too much yet really. I highly recommend talking to people at your school and library as well as another good site for free online college courses that can help you get an idea is https://www.coursera.org/.
