I may have been thinking about my high school experience and realized I want to write a poem about it. So this is about the first day.
It's a new year,
A new start.
Your old friends are somewhere,
in that scary crowd.
Look!
There near the door,
Run across the gym,
don't look around
Oops!
You ran into someone,
apologize quickly,
with your face down to the ground
Walk fast,
Don't trip,
First impressions are everything.
You can hear them mumble,
they saw you before,
Feel your cheeks turn red,
as you walk fast to the corner
Oh thank god,
you can sit with your friends
you all look at each other,
hoping to be with a friendly face
They call for your attention,
You look up to the middle,
they call out names,
You start to shiver,
One by one,
your friends are called,
some get lucky,
together they go
But you are still there,
now all alone,
you can see others,
as they stare at you
finally your named is called,
grab your book bag
and chase your group
Introductions,
name games all around,
only one known face,
not friendly at all,
You can hear them mumble,
they talk about you,
too strange they say
Too nice too
Different teacher,
same class,
great then,
you don't have to make friends
See your friends,
as you walk down the hall,
stare at them
as you beg with your eyes,
half a day,
it goes by quick,
especially when,
your meeting your teachers,
Lunch time come,
You practically run,
There they are,
Your friends waiting for you,
They talk about,
how their day has gone,
you stay quiet,
not much to say
Goodbye you call,
as lunch is done,
back to new classes,
back to introductions
You look at the clock,
5 minutes to the last bell,
you sigh with relief,
then the teacher hands out,
a paper.
Homework,
on the first day,
you try to finish quickly,
2 minutes left,
Ring ring,
goes the bell,
everyone runs,
as you stand still,
half empty room,
time to leave,
wave to your friends,
and climb on the bus,
One day done,
A hundred seventy-nine,
left to go.
