School bans footballs, baseballs, cartwheels and tag
http://dailycaller.com/2013/10/08/mi...-games-of-tag/
Basically they feel that all of these could cause series injury so they banned them all replacing the balls with softer 1's. Thoughts? |
Re: School bans footballs, baseballs, cartwheels and tag
Yeah, these are really stupid. *) We've been playing these games for years, seriously? XD
|
Re: School bans footballs, baseballs, cartwheels and tag
that's awful, kids barely go outside and these games were the last things that kids held onto and motivated them to play outdoors, even with technology. Now that this is banned what else is there to do? >.<

Re: School bans footballs, baseballs, cartwheels and tag
With America being the most obese country, you'd think that they'd try to promote these activities more *).

Re: School bans footballs, baseballs, cartwheels and tag
America. Four words. We are ruined.
|
Re: School bans footballs, baseballs, cartwheels and tag
Oh goody. Let's get the obesity rate up another 10 percent.
|
Re: School bans footballs, baseballs, cartwheels and tag
Why not fit padded walls in the classrooms, replace all chairs with bean bags, ban staplers, scissors, pens, pencils and pencil sharpeners and any other somewhat sharp objects, and why not get students to eat their food with their hands instead of cutlery...
... to reduce the risk of personal injury, intentional or otherwise. Seriously, when I read the article, the image of a padded cell in a psychiatric hospital came to mind. . |
Re: School bans footballs, baseballs, cartwheels and tag
They already took away dodgeball... What, are they trying to foster a generation of obese, technology-obsessed wimps?

Re: School bans footballs, baseballs, cartwheels and tag
My elementary school banned Red Rover but that's about it... XD
"Omygod child! Don't you know the dangers of having fun!?" |
Re: School bans footballs, baseballs, cartwheels and tag
This is so stupid. I know people can get hurt while playing sports, but by taking away these things, you are basically ruining the childhoods of many children (where this ban had taken place). When I was in kindergarten, I was playing tag outside during recess one time and I fell on the rough basketball court and injured my elbow really badly and I had to go to the nurse and get a band-aid, but my school didn't ban tag just because of that incident.

In all seriousness, it seems a rather arcane move on part of the school. I can understand not wanting to incur responsibility of students injure themselves, but having teachers on yard duty usually protects you from liability in negligence cases to so with such things. At least, there's precedent here to cover it. It seems to school is being unnecessarily prudent, if you will. |
Re: School bans footballs, baseballs, cartwheels and tag
Aww. Did some fat kid whine his britches off when he fell flat on his face?
Get it right America. Everyone is obese, broke, and mean. We're screwed. |

Re: School bans footballs, baseballs, cartwheels and tag
Well, that is just ridiculous. What are kids supposed to do when they go outside on break now? Stand around and talk to each other, within a safe distance so they don't hurt each other? Part of being a kid is having fun and getting cuts and scrapes every now and then.. Plus as said, with obesity being a problem in America, you'd think they'd promote activities like that.

Re: School bans footballs, baseballs, cartwheels and tag
Since the students seem interested in those sports/activities, why not have them play it in phys-ed classes? With football, I'm sure many of the injuries weren't from the ball itself (assuming they were playing full-contact football). With tag... I don't really know what to say for that.

Re: School bans footballs, baseballs, cartwheels and tag
Thanks for the article op :)
I think it is just part of the large feminisation of the education system, fortunately only in one school so far. I pray that it won't become the new standard! It's mostly males suffering from that change as they usually need more activity. Here's hoping they will find another way to spend their energy in school! I feel sorry for them :( |
