Burning Man Experiences -
December 31st 2020, 04:14 PM
Maman enthused about Burning Man with a light of excitement in her eyes; Julie and I wanted in! With the exception of this year 2020 where Coronavirus devastated our world and our people, our friends and our family, Burning Man was cancelled. But it is hoped - and dreamed - that we will be able to return next year in 2021.
My first experience with Burning Man echoed Julie's: Fascination, excitement and a great sense of belonging. Like so many, we found ourselves. So I decided to share some videos of Burning Man we went to, the first being what it stood for.

It's not an event, neither is it a rave. Just 70,000 people coming together for a party 24/7 for a week, and one of the greatest nights we had was with Jan Blomqvist (live) aboard The Mayan Warrior Bus.

I was there down below in the sand, off-center-left looking tanned and sandy in black and loving every minute of it with Julie closeby. Maman, too, dancing down below, but closer to the bus, wearing a basque and a Burning Man hat and waving a red fan like a lunatic, happy as Larry! Nevermind the dust storm that swept past! Wearing silver goggles and face protectors we kept on dancing and didn't care a hoot!
There are hundreds of Burning Man videos on You Tube, most very good and in 4K.
We came home changed people. Julie and I found ourselves, as was Maman. And then year later, Covid had struck. But we have hope, every one of us now that vaccines are being rolled out. So maybe we'll see you again at Burning Man 2021. Happy New Year!

The Jan Blomqvist link doesn't work (my bad!) so there it is again:

The mission of Burning Man Project is to facilitate and extend the culture that has issued from the Burning Man event into the larger world.
Reference: The Burning Man Project: https://burningman.org/
From 2016 onwards, Burning Man changed my life and that of Julie's. The most memorable was the 2019 'burn. 2020 was cancelled due to Coronavirus.
Again - [Caution, Please Note: Scenic flashing colours and lasers during some videos might trigger neurological related episodes!]
Surrender (2017) is one of my most favourite Burning Man videos, filmed the year before founder Larry Harvey passed away in 2018. It was filmed by the International Wood Culture Society.

I am reminded by Mark Twain's beguiling quote: “It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.”
Because during our time at Burning Man 2018, I entered the Thunderdome to fight a man three times my size. And Hell yeah, I won!
The imagery and drama of this astonishing video Burning Man 2018 Film: "Ignite" filmed in glorious 4K depicts such a fight, sadly not me, but be warned [ Scenic flashing colours, imagery and music during some videos might trigger neurological related episodes!]

It was the greatest and most empowering fight I'd ever had, though I have been trained in combat by a retired US Marine, Maman's former girlfriend. However, it was in the spirit of friendly goodwill and so much more in Burning Man that had us going again the following year. We've been 'burners' for 4 years and each visit, we discovered more about ourselves that ever before.
Enjoy the video!
