Unhappy SOCIAL ANXIETY - February 21st 2015, 06:09 PM

Hi. Is it normal for 14 yr old to stay at home all day? I just go to school and get home and go on my computer and watch tv shows. I really don't know how to make friends at school. Ones that I can go out and have fun with. Please help.

Hey,

It's not exactly a problem that you're home all the time – some people are just naturally introverted, and that's okay. But getting out of the house does have its perks Try looking around your school and community for sports or clubs that interest you. This will let you talk to kids with similar interests in a small group and a casual environment. This would get you out of the house to do fun things and hopefully introduce you to some cool people.

A good way to start conversations is just to ask people questions about themselves, like what they thought of the quiz in a class you share or just how they're doing. If you're talking to people from a club, you can ask them about something they're doing for that club. For example, if you're in band, you can ask people if they're ready for an upcoming performance or something. Beyond that, just try to be yourself and be friendly.

Hope that helped! If you ever need anything or want to talk, shoot me a message

Hi there,

I guess it depends on the reason why you're staying at home all day apart from going to school. Do you just stay at home because that's where you wan to be to do the things you want to do or do you feel so anxious you feel you can't face going out other than school?

Either way getting out can be a really good way to overcome anxiety and build your confidence and self esteem and I hope that you find a way to do so.

Jessie.

If you're staying at home because social situations make you anxious, and this is stopping you doing the things you want/ need to do, that's a problem and you should consider seeking help for it.

Take as long as you need.
