Bullied Girls Told To Stay Away From Prom -
June 16th 2009, 12:21 AM
Quote:
TWO bullied teenagers in Coventry have been warned not to attend the Grace Academy school prom because staff can't guarantee their safety.
Amber Slater and Laura Bee have been subjected to a campaign of bullying by other students at the Grace Academy school in Woodway Park, Coventry.
The excited pair were looking forward to the end-of-school ball - but they've been sent a letter saying it may be best if they stay away.

Don't know about that in all honesty. I can see where the school is coming from. I chose not to go to my prom because I knew I'd get trouble. But I can see why they would be upset.

Kinda pathetic bullying scheme. It should be the bullies that get stopped. Honestly, what's wrong with the justice system these days?

This is so messed up! either keep away the bullies, or have security at the prom to keep and eye on people, and to walk the girls to their car, etc.
This is totally unnacceptable.
PM me any time, ok? I'm always here to help.

I don't think a school would allow something so blatant. I wouldn't be surprised if the media was distorting it.

I guess it makes sense... If these two girls are being targeted by a large group of their peers, the simplest solution would be to exclude the two from the dance. Of course, this is wrong, and lazy but I can see where the school is coming from.

As much as it makes sense, wouldn't it make even more sense to ban the bullies for, well, BULLYING?

I got asked to leave my first secondary school because I was bullied. It was easier to get me out of the situation than it was to punish over half of my year group for bullying me.
It isn't fair at all, but it happens.
For a school dance I do think it would be just as easy to ban the bullies though.

I have to agree, it would be better to tell the bullies not to come and make them miss it rather then telling two girls who haven't done anything wrong and have had to put up with the bullying not to come. It isn't fair on them at all.

But seriously, what are they supposed to do? Hold a prom for these two girls and maybe a few others, and ban 20 kids from going? Its just not practical.

Have prom for every one, but students who severely bully others don't get to come, just like students with other disciplinary problems can't go to prom.
Or, they could let them all go but have security (or trusted chaperons) pay close attention to the girls and bullies.

I think that would have been the best option for everyone. Tell them they teachers etc will be keeping an eye on them and if anything happens they will be kicked out.
