Being made fun of <3 - December 5th 2022, 02:08 AM

Woww, third post in a night! Crazy. Just wanted to vent rq cuz I'm going back to school tmr. Ya'll are gonna laugh that I'm upset about this, but I keep getting made fun of for smelling bad. Every class I'm in, someone makes a comment about it smelling "musty" or "like fishsticks" etcetc. I know that's very specific, sorry. It's what I hear everyday, and no matter WHAT I put on it doesn't seem like enough. Perfume? Only lasts an hour for me. Deoderant? The regular stuff doesn't work for me, and the more powerful stuff only works for a bit. It's so embarrassing to have to pull out my stick of deoderant in class and hope nobody sees. I shower everyday.
Before any of you say I'm overthinking it, I got TOLD in class that it was me. It was the last period, and this girl came up to me. She asked if I use deoderant, and I said yeah- and then she set a can on the table and said "I think you need to use some more of it."
I was mortified, but I still have that deoderant aha.

On another note, I have some stuff going on between me and my friends. It's kinda stupid to be mad over, and I've talked about it before, but whatever. Basically, my friend won't talk to me because, as one of my other friends told me, he thinks I'm annoying. And I've bent over backwards for him, and he still finds me annoying? . As for peer pressure, that same friend keeps telling me to get a phone (knowing how much trouble I'll get in), he pressured me into giving him my mom's perfumes, and then he just leaves me out in other matters. idk

Idek why I'm writing about this lol. sorry thanks for coming to my ted talk, ima go to bed gn <3

Hi,

I am really sorry that the other students are being mean to you. When someone is being really mean and hurtful to you, a lot of times it's because they have a lot of problems going on at home and they are hiding this from everyone and they take how they are feeling out on other people. I'm not saying that it is okay to do this to anyone. It is never okay for anyone to hurt others like this or hitting them. When you are in class and they are being hurtful to you, try ignoring them, because when you are doing this then you are not looking at them or listening to what they are saying. It can be hard to do this, just try doing your school work or listening to your teacher. Also, whatever they say to you, try not to get upset and cry because they like to use this to hurt you more. You can also talk to your teacher about what is happening in the classroom and see about if they can move you to the front of the classroom so that no one is doing this to you. If you have a friend in your class, see about sitting next to them for help. I'm also sorry that you are having a hard time with one of your friends. See about talking to your friend one on one with them and see why they are upset with you and see what they say back. You can ask if you both can talk about everything so that everything will be okay soon and you can go back being friends. I hope you have a lovely day at school and everything works out with your friend.

Hi Lyl,

Thank you for reaching out about these valid concerns. I'm sorry that you've been having a tough time in school.

A lot of individuals have issues with body odour, so please don't feel alone in this struggle. It is also quite natural to have body odour when you're in your teenage years. I assume you are in that age group since you're in school. There are many reasons for it, including physiological/hormonal changes that we cannot fully control. As you grow older, these might resolve on their own. It looks like you're doing your part by showering, using deodorant, etc. However, I can understand how self-conscious you would be feeling as a result of this. I encourage you to speak with a guidance counsellor at school, or a teacher you're comfortable discussing this matter with. Additionally, you could also visit a doctor. Here are some links which might hopefully help:

https://childrenswi.org/newshub/stories/teen-body-odor
https://kidshealth.org/Nemours/en/te...ne-basics.html
https://youngwomenshealth.org/guides/body-odor/
https://youngmenshealthsite.org/guides/body-odor/

I'm also sorry that things have been tough with your friends. I encourage not spending time associating with "friends" who are taking advantage of your kindness and then badmouthing about you to others. It might be hard to appreciate this when you're in school, but take it from someone who has been through school and university - friends come and go. Yes, some friends will stay. But over time, we will lose contact with many of them. If some friends are toxic, it is OK to let them go. New ones will come our way, trust me on this. You may think of joining some hobby clubs in school, or sign up for some volunteering in your community. That will give you a change of mind, and an opportunity to make new friends as well.

Take care!
