Happy holidays from TeenHelp! - December 25th 2018, 12:47 AM

Hello everyone,

The holidays are here and we'd like to take some time to emphasize the importance of self care. It's around this time that it can be easy to get caught up in the excitement of the holidays, and a hectic rush that seems to take over our lives. It's then that we forget that it's okay to take time for ourselves too.

The holidays can be an exciting time for many of us but they can also be difficult, with stress and feelings of loneliness amplified. We focus a lot on giving gifts, spending time with others and pleasing everyone else, but we have to remember to take a step back, take care of ourselves and do what we want during this time of the year.

If you have holiday events to attend but are worried about toxic people you might have to be around it's a great idea to take some time, weigh the pros and cons of attending and do what's best for you. Don't let people pressure you into doing things you do not want to do or things that might be upsetting. Give yourself permission to say no to any and all events if it would be healthier for you.

Spend time in your own happy place, whether that's with friends and family, or at home in your pyjamas with a good book, it's your choice how you spend it.

We here at TeenHelp want to take this time to wish you happy holidays and to let you know that we are here to support you if you need it this holiday season. Let 2019 be a year of being mindful of your health and needs.

Coming up...

For the holiday period we've got a bunch of exciting things happening. You'll notice we've undergone our annual festive makeover, filling the site with snow for the month.

We've also published our brand new Holiday Resource created by our Resource Editors with some useful information to see you through the holidays all in one place.

Just out is our festive Newsletter, with the latest news and top tips for the holidays like the best movies to watch.

Around the 24th, 25th, 31st and 1st we're running holiday Chat support sessions in the Chat Room for anybody who needs someone to chat to.

We'll be issuing our Winter Awards around December 26th, with awards for our prestigious Volunteer Of The Year as well as those who have made Outstanding Contributions and Inspiring others.

Next up we'll be unveiling the winners to our holiday competition around December 28th with prizes of online vouchers, a box of chocolates and a handwritten note from me!

Finally as we gear up for the end of the year we're ready to start looking at next year. Our annual survey, Share Your Views, is open for you to tell us what you'd like to see next year. Remember that TeenHelp is run entirely by volunteers and everything we do comes from the hard work of a small number of young people who make TH what it is. So why not check out our Volunteer roles and if you have a great idea to improve TeenHelp maybe you can make it a reality in 2019?

Phew!

Have a great Christmas and a happy New Year!
