7 different foods to pair with pesto
By Cassie (cynefin)

Pesto is a sauce that originated in Italy and is typically made with basil leaves, pine nuts, cheese, garlic, and olive oil. Pesto is usually green in color due to its ingredients, but sun dried tomato pesto, a red sauce, is also available. Pesto is commonly used as an alternative to tomato sauce in pasta, but there are many additional tasty foods you can add it to.
  • Try a homemade pizza with pesto in place of tomato sauce. Spread some pesto on a pizza, then top with cheese and other pizza toppings before baking. Know that pesto tends to be thicker than tomato sauce, so you will need less of it for a pizza.
  • Put a spin on traditional deviled eggs by adding pesto to them. After hard boiling and peeling the eggs, mix some mayonnaise, pesto, and the egg yolks together. Different search engines on the internet have various recipes to experiment with.
  • Put pesto on bread or in a cold sandwich. Pesto can be used like any other condiment. Try adding pesto to your lunch for something different instead of reaching for the mustard or mayonnaise.
  • Pesto can make a good addition to a grilled cheese sandwich as well. Spread a little on your slices of bread before preparing it.
  • Consider adding pesto as a garnish (or a pop of flavor) to your side soups and salads.
  • Introduce pesto into your breakfast by adding it to the top of your scrambled eggs. This can add more flavor if you struggle to eat eggs but want to try eating more of them.
  • Search for a pesto dip recipe, add it to a pre-made dip, or experiment with ingredients to make a dip of your own. Pesto in dip pairs nicely with vegetables and other snacks such as pretzels or chips.
