How to make chocolate covered pretzel rods
By Cassie (cynefin)

[Source]

Chocolate covered pretzel rods are a relatively simple, yet fun treat to make for all ages. Pretzel rods can be easily dipped in any color chocolate and decorated with a variety of sprinkles and other baking decor. This article will give a step by step tutorial on how to make your chocolate covered pretzel rods into festive looking desserts.

You will need
Pretzel rods
Chocolate melts in the color(s) of your choice (commonly found in the baking or party section of a store)
Sliced almonds (optional)
Sprinkles or any other decor for your pretzels
A means to melt chocolate whether that is in a microwave, a Crock-pot, or a chocolate fondue heater.
An airtight container
Baking pans
Parchment paper (optional)

This article will discuss how to make chocolate covered pretzel rods by melting the chocolate in the microwave.

Step one: Gather your materials so they are ready when you are. Lay out your pans and line them with parchment paper. Make sure your bowl and other materials are ready for use.
Step two: Pour the chocolate melts into a bowl and melt them in the microwave. Be sure to follow the instructions on the label.
Step three: Once the chocolate is melted enough, dip your pretzel rods in one by one. Roll them for a finished look. Place your pretzel rod on your pan.
Step four: Decorate your pretzel rod immediately. Start from the top of the pretzel rod and work your way down if you are using sprinkles. For a cleaner look, start applying the sprinkles off of the pretzel at the top and then move down.
Step five: Chill the pretzel rods in the refrigerator for five to ten minutes. Be sure to lay them flat.
Step six: Remove the rods from the refrigerator and let them acclimate to the room’s temperature. Once they have done so, store them in an airtight container.

Pretzel rods should last several weeks or a few months if kept in appropriate conditions.

Festive decorating tips
  • Use green chocolate melts for your rods. Then, apply a sliced almond to the top. Once the chocolate has set a little, use a fork to create knuckles on the pretzel to make a witches’ finger.
  • Again, use green chocolate melts and apply a sliced almond to the top of the pretzel. Once the chocolate has set, use some frosting to decorate the almond in yellow and the pretzel with a little bit of red to make a Christmas tree.
