What do you eat for Christmas dinner? -

What is for dinner on Christmas day?
I always have roast turkey, and sometimes we will have other meats like beef or pork. We have sausage meat, pigs in blankets, stuffing, and then lots of vegetables and gravy.
For dessert there is usually a yule log or mince pies.

It varies by year but this year we are having Cornish hens, mashed potatoes, corn, maybe carrots, and salad.
We are having cheesecake for dessert and probably something else too since my mom doesn’t like cheesecake.

Traditionally we have 12 dishes.
Red borscht with mushroom raviolis
Mushroom soup
Carp (the most important dish)
Herring in oil
Herring in cream
Herring in vinegar
Dumplings with mushrooms and cabbage
Bigos (special sauerkraut)
Kutia (a dessert made of wheat grain, poppy seeds, honey and some other additions)
Dried fruit compote (yes, it counts as a dish )
Greek-style fish
Cabbage with peas
Of course, some dishes may vary depending on the part of the country - the list above is what my family makes every year. Still, even if some dishes differ by the region, every family makes exactly 12 dishes.
For some reason I really enjoy our Christmas food, so that's one more reason for loving this time of year All the main celebrations take place on the 24 December in Poland - the traditional dinner is followed by opening the gifts.

Wow, thank you for sharing what your tradition is! While I may not enjoy these dishes I like the idea of having 12 dishes like that. I’d be so stuffed!

We cook everything from scratch, we have our turkey, roasted potatoes with gravy, yorkshire, puddings, roasted brussel sprouts, green bean casserole, stuffing, steamed green beans and corn on to cob.

My goodness, y'all! I'm jealous everyone has such extravagant meals for Christmas dinner! We just have Chinese food; not that I'm complaining. It's my second-favorite ethnic food and it's a treat to have once a year.
Christmas Eve, though, we order from a special catering service. Up until the year before the pandemic, when my dad's brother and parents would visit on the 26th, my mom would cook up a nice filet mignon with twice baked potatoes, green bean casserole, and boiled onions.
