What is your very favourite cheese?
We were shopping in Sardinia today and visited a nice deli. In the window were several yummy looking cheeses, but one in particular stood out.
A large mauve 3kilo truckle called Pickle Power. I've had it before and it was the most delicious cheese I've ever eaten! Made by Snowdonia Cheese Company. I wanted to know how it came to be there, hundreds of miles from Wales. Also an equally large truckle covered in black wax, Black Bomber. This magnificent cheese company had cleverly combined classic British pickled onion with it, and I was inside the shop before Julie and Tommy made comment. I bought both. Extravagant I know, but also bought three smaller that sat on a generously thick slap of Welsh slate, for presents to our future employee. He and his wife will love them, I'm sure. There's a large variety of their cheeses, smaller when bought online, maximum 2kilos down to 200g. Tommy made lip-smacking noises, but Julie rolled her eyes. She knows my weakness for good cheese. Google it up; I'm loathe to put a link. I don't want to be given a thick ear for spamming. But it's the best tasting cheese - ever! :D So what's yours? Could be black rinded Gouda, or Canadian cheddar resembling a red football, or plain old 'moustrap' cheese, or even Dairylea spreadables. Spread on a slice of buttered brown wholemeal cut lengthways, with layers of bacon rashers, that's as piggish as it's yummy, too! :nosweat: |
Re: What is your very favourite cheese?
Wensleydale cheese. Especially with cranberries or apricots in. :D

Re: What is your very favourite cheese?
Wow, that cheese place in Sardinia sounds cool! I've heard of Snowdonia - they seem to make really great cheeses. I think the Italians are incredible with their cheese - I remember having this cannoli with cheese made by an Italian dessert stall in Belfast (the people who made it are from Italy and experts at their craft) - it was heaven.
I think personally my favourite cheese would be feta! Fresh feta goes so well in pasta and salads. I've also recently discovered a new combo - honey and cheese on toast. It might sound strange but the flavour combo is perfect. :D |
Re: What is your very favourite cheese?
I love cheese. You can't beat a really good mature cheddar. There's a really great cheese company for those in the UK called The Cheshire Cheese Company which do hampers. They have an amazing pickled onion one a bit like the one you described which is delicious. They also have one which is caramalised onion and rioja cheddar which I probably could have eaten in bulk!
Also, for a nostalgic sentiment, cheddar cheese and pineapple scewers :dem: |
Re: What is your very favourite cheese?
I don't have one particular cheese that I like more than another...I just love cheese. :bleh:

I love Wensleydale with cranberries. Delicious with some nice crusty bread, but I'm also fond of mature cheddar and a nice pickled onion on the side. That's how I came to love that Snowdonia cheese. It's so addictive! :D |
