Ethiopian Airlines plane crash
By Brittany (.Brittany.)

On March 10, 2019, an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 crashed, instantly killing all 159 passengers and 8 crew members on board. There were approximately passengers from 35 different countries on the plane at the time of the crash. 32 Kenyans, 18 Canadians, 9 Ethiopians, 8 each from the United States, China, Italy, and France, 7 from the United Kingdom, 6 from Egypt, 5 each from Germany, the Netherlands, and 4 each from India and Slovakia.

The plane crashed shortly after take off from Addis Ababa while travelling towards Nairobi in Kenya. The plane landed approximately 50 km from where it took off in Bishoftu. Some witnesses said that the plane was on fire before it landed. The plane was brand new and just delivered last year; the pilot had over 8,000 cumulative flight hours. The pilot had noticed some kind of issue with the plane and asked if he could turn around to go back to the airport.

The developers of the plane are trying to figure out what happened and if there was a connection between this crash and one that happened with a Lion Air plane in October 2018. The Lion Air plane crashed into the sea, 13 minutes after take off, killing all 189 people on board. The plane was also new and was only delivered 2 months prior to take off. The pilot had asked to return to the airport shortly before that crash. The Ethiopian Airlines accident has prompted many other countries to ground the same plane model until the cause of the crash is determined.
