Would you date someone that has the same name as one of your parents?
This conversation basically started because I mentioned a friend I have to my mom, and she was automatically like "Lol is he your boyfriend?" So I said no and she asked his name, and I said it. He has the same name as my dad and she found it funny. I said it'd be kind of weird for me to date someone who has the same name as my dad, but she disagreed.
Would you all find it weird to date someone who has the same name as your mom or dad? |

Honestly I wouldn't find it weird at all. I've had crushes on people that had the same first name as my parents and in a few instances the same first name as my sister and never once thought twice about it.

Why would it be a big deal? Unless you'll constantly be picturing your dad when you do it, it doesn't matter.
I have friends who's boyfriends/girlfriends had the same name as their mom/dad or brother/sister and it doesn't matter to them. |

If I shared the same name as my boyfriend's ex. Ugh. No, I wouldn't mind but I'd give him a nickname (like Mike for Michael). |

Even if it bothered me, the fact that my dad has one of the most common names on the planet means that I'd just have to get over it.

It wouldn't bother me; a name is a name. I think the only thing about names that has ever bothered me would be dating someone with my own name. I went on a date with another Jordan once and it was just too weird.

Yes it would bother me if the girl I liked had the same name as my grandma. But not my mom I think of my mom as a friend so it wouldn't really matter.

Wouldn't bother me at all. I have the same name as my fiance's sister and we don't care. If you care about someone, it shouldn't matter at all.

It wouldn't be weird at all for me. The name of the person doesn't matter to me. So, as long as they aren't clones of my parents, I'm fine! :)

My Dad's name in pretty unusual, which I think it would make it more weird for me to date someone with his name. I don't know anyone else with his name, so it does kind of feel personal to him, if it was more common I don't think it would bother me as much. But nicknames are an easy way to avoid any awkwardness to do with name similarities.

I don't think it's weird, but then both my parents have extremely uncommon names, so it would never happen.

I would find it weird, mostly if it was a girl with my mum's name. Her name was so much more common in the 50s and 60s, not so much after that. Plus, it became more unisex in the 70s. I wouldn't date a guy with the name my mum has. My dad has a common name, but like someone else said, if I dated someone who shared the same name, I'd find a nickname or a shortened form of his name. I'd date a girl with the feminine variant of my dad's name. But that was more common in the 1800s and early 1900s, not so much after 1940.

I think it depends how serious you guys are.. like lets say your having sex and stuff..what if the guy asks you to moan his name. Like i dont know about anyone else but that would weird the heck out of me.

If I ever said my moms name during sex, I'd go limp, curl up in a ball, and rock back and forth in a corner. My partner would leave and never talk to me again.
Just combining those words (mom, name, and the other word I dont wanna think about right now) into a sentence makes me wanna call my therapist immediately. It's 3:45 AM. |

I wouldn't care. I think of them as "mom" and "dad" rather than their actual names.

I think it would kind of bother me. I don't know. People's brains work in different ways. Even though my mom is generally just "Mom" to me, I still might find the connection a bit uncomfortable.
If they were SUPER AMAZING and really great and like, perfect as perfect can be, I doubt it'd stop me, but it would give me pause for sure. Weirdly enough, but perhaps also relevant, my girlfriend shares a name with one of my exes, which is probably worse XD And that doesn't really phase me at all. |

I wouldn't mind it, primarily because I've never called my parents by their first name. So kind of, my brain doesn't link the names to the image of them automatically.
Don't care about names, obviously, I don't. Before I'd find some names hot, of specific people. But their personalities turned out to be either dull or plain bad as in another kind. Life has taught me better, thank Lord. |

It use to bother me, but now that I'm dating a guy who shares the same name with a lot of people I know, it doesn't bother me so much.
My cousin married someone with the same name as her father, and they almost gave their son that name. That would have been /really/ confusing. o_O |
