Stare at addiction with hope in your eyes
That one day soon, you might feel alive.
Stare at depression with nothing but hatred
A burning passion to save all that's left.
The victim's not the only one hurt
When you examine every case
The believer's not the only one lost
When the demons take control.
Maybe the bottle is all that will save you
When you've exhausted every breath
When you're down to one chance and the crowd screams “quit!”
So too scared to lose this battle weak, you walk away unharmed.
No scratches, no bruises, no knife wounds or scars
But sometimes the loser, is the one who fought most.
Sometimes the broken started off whole,
With no odds against them, their hearts were still full
But they stare at depression, as it turns to pure hatred
No more chances, to save what is left.
When love starts a fire, it's never in your heart
It burns in the blue eyes of another,
As belief slowly turns to nothing but doubt.
This addiction is all that can ever save you
When you're down to the very last drop
Of an ice cold liquid that fills your lungs
Creating the fire that you long for.
Stare at your affliction with dread in the eye
One day soon, you'll no longer be alive.
A lonely soul in a land of broken hearts
