Addicted to alcohol and OTC durgs plz help - February 10th 2009, 06:01 AM

Currenly, I am a very addicted to Alcohol and Over The Counter drugs. I am on the Football, Basketball, and Baseball team for the year. I always have to have the the game on my shoulders. I always cut myself to relieve the stress. but I got in too much trouble with my coaches. So I took up drinking. I would drink out of the 24 packs' and drink it all in one night. Then I also started taking lots of advil. about 10 a day almost. It makes me feel alright. I don't feel the stress anymore. But people are starting to catch on. I want to stop, but don't know how. If I stop everything now the stress will be too much and I might resort to cutting again. Please help, any way you might think.

What type of OTC drugs? How long?
I have the same exact problem. They can be just as addictive (psychology and sometimes physically) as street drugs if the problem goes on.
The best advice I can give you is see a psychiatrist and tell them what's going on. It's not as scary as it sounds. I've done it. We just come up with plans and ways to end the addiction.
If it's too severe, you might want to check into a clinic or a rehab. Yeah, you can go to rehab for over the counter drugs too.
you're drinking, taking pills and cutting while playing sports. That can put a strain on your heart. Get help for this.

Advil, 200 mgs.

Thanks tibby, I'll see about going to the psychiatrist's office this weekend. Due to the addiction I forced myself out of sports til I stopped cause I was going against the Athletes' Contract that I signed.

oh Advil yeah you can develop an addiction. Advil, like Tylenol, has caffeine in it as an ingredient. My guess would be it's psychological but I'm not a doctor.

Good luck!

Source out why you feel the need to abuse your body like you do.
We could all sit and spit out what these things are doing to your body but I'm sure you're very aware that you're putting your health on the line.

The only way you're going to be able to get away from these things is to sort out the source of your problems. Perhaps it's weighing yourself down too much with the sports, a lot of pressure can lead to some people taking such actions. I don't know. I know nothing about you, so I couldn't comment.

If there's nothing you can think of, or you don't feel it's something you know how to deal with in a more constructive manner. Perhaps consider visiting your school therapist or a private office to try and help you through. And of course you have the community here to help you find answers.
