Masturbation Addiction -
October 8th 2015, 05:53 AM
Hi. I know this might sound kinda silly, but I'm 15 and I need help to kill a masturbation addiction. Recently I've been masturbating about every night to every other and I really need to stop. You might think it doesn't sound that unhealthy but when I first started masturbating too much I developed mild tinnitus. I don't really think that overmasturbation is the sole reason for it, because I was also depressed and blasting heavy metal 24/7 with earbuds whenever possible(just to tone out people) and so I developed it. It usually calms down when I stop masturbating for a while but starts back up when I start again. I don't really know why I masturbate so much, though. I think it's just lack of self control when I get horny. An easily accessible, vast porn internet database doesn't really help matters either though. I'm not socially inactive, though. I mean I'm now in cross country, which takes up my weekends, and school, homework, and friends(plus daily morning practice) takes up all my weekday time. . . and on top of that I find room for guitar practice every day, but somehow I still masturbate a lot. It's kinda mentally unhealthy and hurts my ears at random times until I abstain myself for a couple of weeks(don't know how and I do it without trying). . . so, any ideas on how to kill this addiction? I'm fine with masturbating every 2 weeks to 1 month, but every day or other day isn't normal. Ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to TeenHelp!
Every night to every other night is a very average amount of time for a person to be masturbating. That's about how much I masturbate, and I do not consider myself addicted to masturbating. It's something a lot of people do.
You expressed depression associated with your masturbation. Why do you believe you get depressed when you're masturbating on a regular basis? Biologically, there's no connection with masturbation and depression, but there can definitely be some social factors contributing to it. Do you have shame associated with it, or other feelings? And have you considered getting treatment for your tinnitus? The condition has no relation to masturbation, but other conditions are related to it, so you may want to see a doctor if this is something you deal with.
Good luck!

try taking this urge out on Blood On The Dance Floor they can get pretty... detailed and graphic in their lyrics and it might help... but then again it MIGHT make your urges worse so idk depends on if you think this might help or not this is the first thing i could think of that might help this so yea im sorry if it doesnt work but trying couldnt hurt too much

I think you understood me wrong. I masturbated because I was depressed and used it as an outlet to feel good.

If your addicted, I don't even know what I used to be. I used to average 3 times a day and had almost no social interaction. Those are characteristics of a masturbation addiction. If you are still getting everything done, I wouldn't consider this to be a huge problem. Then again, I still remember when I was 15 and making these threads.
Tinnitus has nothing to do with masturbating; think about it. Why would what you're doing with your genitals affect your ears? They aren't parts of the same body system. Your genitals are part of the reproductive system. Your hearing is part of the (insert correct system, I'm tired) system. Your hearing problems are almost certainly being caused by blasting heavy metal music directly into your ears.
Btw, it might help your depression to listen to calming music instead. It helps me relax, at least.

Thanks for clarifying! I thought you were saying that masturbating was causing you to feel depressed.
Depression is a complicated illness. There are healthy and unhealthy ways to cope with it, unhealthy being alcohol and drugs, healthy being exercise, and the best (obviously) being seeking treatment for the depression in conjunction with utilizing those healthy coping skills. Personally, I think masturbation can usually be a healthy way to cope with depression. In the support group I used to go to, many people used it as a way to calm down during triggering times. A person having more orgasms in their life (including masturbation and sex) is linked (correlation, not causation) to healthier outcomes.
Robert is right in that if it's getting in the way of your life, that's when it's a problem. But using it as a coping mechanism isn't. I'd recommend seeking treatment for your depression professionally, but your masturbation does not sound like it's hindering your life, and I think it can be a healthy coping skill in this time of your life.

I think you are wrong to say that. A lot of people do every day, it is a way of life. I masturbate nearly everyday and no harm has come to me.
Take care
