Are you in the legal drinking age in your country? If you are, its perfectly fine to drink moderately to calm yourself.

If you are not of legal age, I would find something else to ease yourself to sleep.

If you feel you cannot break your alcohol habit yourself, try to see if you can find alcohol support groups in your area.

Drinking to try and fix anything is not a good idea. You would be better off talking to a doctor to see what else you can do.

I definitely wouldn't advise drinking to get yourself to sleep or to forget. Or cutting during the day, for that matter. That's really just got you on a road to addiction. It's good that you identify that you should stop drinking. If you are having trouble sleeping, and are finding it hard to cope with things, I would definitely suggest going to see a doctor, as they will be able to see if you should get into some sort of therapy, medication, things like that. In the mean time, you could try some sort of supplement to help you sleep, like melatonin. It might also be worthwhile to write down the things you are trying to "forget," in order to sort of get them out of your system a little bit. This might help put your mind at some ease.

I also want to give you a link to our alternatives thread. It's over in the Self-Harm forum, and it's great for getting through urges to self-harm, as well as a variety of other things (like I use alternatives when I feel like I need to drink to forget.) It's a really long list, so if the first few things you try aren't helpful, don't fret! There's bound to be something in the list that is helpful. Some that really help me are writing, going for a walk, tearing up pieces of paper, making some sort of craft, and cleaning. You can find the list here: click me!

I hope that things look up for you soon. Hang in there!
