Doctor lying bill

The Arizona Senate (of course in my state... :glare: ) has okayed legislation that will let doctors lie about an unborn child’s health and escape any related “wrongful birth” suits, which has some saying the state is trying to trick expecting parents from opting for abortion.

What do you think about this? I don't think it's right. The doctor can tell your opinion about abortion, and what he/she think should be done about the child, but they have no right to LIE to patients.

Don't even need to read the article. This is basically going against the doctor's Hypocratical Oath, which they take once they've graduated medical school and are ready to practice. If one state is getting this privilege, it won't take long before ALL states get it. Which is wrong; had something been medically wrong with my niece after her birth, I would have expected AND appreciated the doctor's honesty. This is all about making sure the doctor's ass is covered if something ends up being his fault. It's WRONG. You did something wrong, you take the heat for it. What makes a doctor so damn special that he gets this type of privilege?

I agree entirely, Shannon. Yes, doctors are going to make mistakes. Yes, it's not good when they do. But is that an excuse for letting doctors LIE? No! No, no, no! My gosh, I can't actually believe the idiocy that some people engage in! I'm sorry, but this is just idiocy. There is NO excuse to EVER let a doctor lie to their patients. They have the right to know what's going on with their health, and the health of their child. And I'm sorry, if a doctor lies to me, I'm suing. Period. That's not okay, AT ALL.

Purely playing Devil's Advocate, it could be argued that a number of widely-accepted medical procedures (including, but not limited to, organ donation and abortion) would also fall foul of the Hippocratic Oath. I do agree though that legislation intended to provide doctors with the ability to lie to their patients in any capacity without fear of liability for the consequences of doing so is not a welcome development.

However, I feel a much more unwelcome development - and one which appears to have escaped comment thus far - is the development of "wrongful birth" and "wrongful life" lawsuits as alluded to in this article. As a proponent of universal human rights, that passage made my skin crawl frankly.
