The Lady Doctor -
November 16th 2010, 05:28 AM
So I was wondering if anyone just doesn't go to the gyno. I'm not asking if it's okay not to go--I know you're supposed to--I'm just asking if anyone doesn't.
and if you should hear the cries and calls through the thinnest of the walls don't you get yourself so blue it's just the sound of me getting over you

I've never been. But I've only been sexually active for a little more than a year and you don't need a pap smear until two years after you become sexually active.

I've never been and I don't know personally know anyone in this country who has, unless they were pregnant or had something really wrong with them - like they needed an operation or something. I don't think its that common in the UK. Normally if I need any tests I go see the regular nurse at my gp's clinic.

I think in the uk you get a pap smear when your 20. I went to the clinic and got tested the other weeks. I haven't got the results because they haven't rang me, and when I ring no one answers :/
But yeh I guess I've been.

Well I'm a virgin, but I've been going for the last 4 years, just to get birth control. And I'm terrified of cancer, so it's nice to get checked out once a year, just to put my mind at ease about certain things. I mean I know when it comes to cervical cancer the odds are unlikely, but then again UTIs are supposed to be a sexually transmitted disease and I managed to get one so...

I'm not even sure how I go about seeing a gyno in the UK, I think we just go to the doctors to get pap smears or check ups if we think anything's wrong.

I've never been. I'm a virgin and I'm not sure if you're meant to go before you're sexually active, but I will probably go around the time I'm ready for sex, just to talk about stuff and make sure there's nothing wrong.
I would be pretty scared about going, though.

I've been going since I was about 16, but at the time, that was because of an ovarian cyst that I had. I haven't gone back since my postpartum checkup after I had my son 14 months ago, though. So I guess I'm not due to go back for another year or so...

A UTI isn't a sexually transmitted disease. Often sexually active girls will get them because sex makes it easier to transmit bacteria, but they can also be caused by genetics and women can easily get them regardless of sexual status. The theory is that a woman's urethra is quite short, so bacteria can easily get into the bladder.

Yeah, I think that's what we do here too. I know my mum goes to our normal doctor to get pap smears.

Ya I'll just be going to my normal doctor.
But no I haven't been yet, and I've been sexually active for just over a year.
My doctor wants me to go in 6 months.
But that's not happening cause it freaks me out.
