Autumn/winter immunity tips -
October 27th 2023, 03:01 PM
Hi all!
How have you been doing?
Autumn has brought cold, wet weather. It's easy to get sick, especially during the transition period before winter, as the weather is changeable and temperature fluctuates even within a single day.
Do you have any tips you'd like to share on how to boost one's immunity? Do you do anything to avoid getting sick?
I always wear a hat and I take off my jacket when I board the bus, so that I don't overheat when inside and then get too cold after getting off. I take vitamin D pills, too.
What are your tips on this topic?
Cheers
Sue

I take vitamin D but the main thing I do is get my flu shot. I’ve never had the flu!

When the cooler weather arrives, I always take vitamin tablets and make sure I'm rugged up.

I notice that I tend to get at least a cold or so during the fall and winter period, if not a sore throat too. It's also way colder and it stinks! I wish it'd stay not too cold and not too hot year long.

I try to keep to a good routine with taking vitamins to help fight off any illness. I also wash my hands frequently to avoid the transfer of germs, especially in public spaces. The flu shot is a great way to prevent getting sick during this season. I also do my best to dress appropriately for the weather to make sure I don't get sick due to rapid fluctuations in body temperature, although that's one that my mom instilled in me at a young age so I'm not sure of the science behind that one.

I take a few different vitamins from iron, to cod liver oil. I take a immunity complex one which is a vitamin which is supposed to help keep my immune system healthy, I take a multivitamin, a vitamin D and a vitamin C one too. I also go for my covid jab and flu jab. And drink more orange juice and try and drink one honey and lemon drink each week as it helps boost my immune system.

I've only just begun to take Vitamin D and mineral supplements this year. Hopefully that'll help my immune system this winter season. I recently got my annual flu shot as well, though I know that won't necessarily cancel out the possibility of getting a cold. The other thing is that I ensure my hair is dry when I go outside, especially if it's near freezing or below. If it's raining or snowing, I try to stay dry and get out of the cold as quick as possible so I don't get wet.

I try to wear appropriate clothing. It is difficult when it's getting colder out, but it's not really cold yet. And equally, it's easy to warm up when you are on the bus/train, in a public place with heating or simply doing exercise outside. I try to wear things I can easily take off to deal with changes in temperature. Other than that, I mainly take Vitamin C and stock up on cold/flu/sore throat things!
