A question about Vitamin D - February 11th 2021, 06:46 PM

How much Vitamin D should an adult have per day?

Please don't suggest I ask my doctor. I'm in the inky Mediterranean and there isn't one I can call right now.

What is an approximate daily amount (tablet form) for women in the early 20's? Does the amount of Vitamin D increase with age?

What food contains small amounts of Vitamin D?

Any help would be appreciated. Please don't all rush at once.

The upper limit for those aged 19 and above is 4000 IU per day. However, the recommended daily allowance (ages 1-70) for vitamin D is 600 IU per day; 15 micrograms.

Good sources of vitamin D include rainbow trout and salmon, though sardines and whole milk can also suffice.

Normally supplementing vitamin D is not necessary as we synthesise the vitamin through UV rays. More so if you're already consuming foods such as those I've mentioned above.

Thank you, Sarah.

Actually, Tommy's just found this useful NHS link regarding vitamin D which is useful to know: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/vitami...als/vitamin-d/

Hi there,

I was going to mention if there was anyway you can research the answer but you did it already.

Riviere mentioned some good advice as to what foods to eat to get Vitamin D. Taking Vitamin D tablets might help.

Thank you for the suggestion of taking Vitamin D tablets, Flight, but where I live gets a lot of sun, and even during winter I remain very tanned. As it dawned on me from what our maman said, sunlight synthesizes Vitamin D in the body so I have no use for it. However, once we return home I'm going to ask my doctor for advice about Vitamin B6 as I may be deficient in it. Otherwise being referred to a nutritionist might be a good option.

I found that NHS reference only after going online with my laptop. For many days I tend to stay off the internet, for having got well rid of my social media, I've actually started feeling better in myself and, been sleeping very well.

Once we've back at home I'll take up running again. It was nothing to run 10 miles every day and the best running shoes I've ever had are On Cloud X ! Not cheap, but pounding Monte Carlo in the early hours of the morning I need an ace pair!
