How to explain to family that medication isn't a cure? - August 5th 2016, 04:47 PM

They think the medication is a cure that it will stop the hallucinations and delusions and that I won't have bad spells or episodes. They don't understand that it's not an automatic fix. It's generally helped with day to day life, I've got a job a few hours a week and I go shopping and I'm less paranoid and have more patience but I still have bad days and every time I do everyone seems disappointment and they distance themselves. I don't know what to do or how to react.

You could ask them to join you for your therapy appointments. This way they can hear from a professional on why ongoing therapy is crucial to your mental health development, as well as ways that they can optimize your home life. Sometimes when people hear things from someone else, particularly a professional in their field, people tend to take the advice more seriously.
