Diabetes Rant Thread -

Fuck diabetes. Seriously. I have mad respect for those of you who've dealt with it since childhood. I was diagnosed at 16 and maintained good control for a few years. But now my A1C is like 10 and my blood sugars run in the 200s and 300s. I've upped my dose of Lantus to 35 units and I take a ton of humalog as well, nothing seems to work.
Anyone have experience with gaining or losing weight while diabetic? I've gained [Edited] over the past two years and I guess that's probably a factor, but damn. I hate going to the gym and always get really out of shape in the winter when there's nothing to do outside.
Another rant: All the stuff we have to buy for diabetes care is crazy. There is no reason test strips should be $1 apiece and insulin should be $100 a vial. Someone make a generic already. Corporate greed dictates every part of diabetes care. Ever heard of the "artificial pancreas?" It's just a scam to get people to pay tons of money for the rest of their lives. A real cure for diabetes wouldn't require an IV infusion set and lithium batteries. I'm sure they could find one if they found a way to make it "pay-by-installment."
