After you have seen your therapist, counselor, doctor etc - April 26th 2012, 05:50 PM

Hi guys

I was just wondering how everyone deals with the emotions of sessions with counselors etc. I know that I get quite upset, especially after I have seen my counselor and it's hard for me to walk out of the appointment and get on with the day. I was wondering if there's anything you all do to help you move on after the appointment?

Well personally, my boyfriend comes with me to all of my appointments. Maybe seeing a friend, or someone else close to you after the appointment might help you get your mind off of the whole thing a bit.

I will either feel super super good and happy or so down in dumps. I do agree with talking to someone who your close to afterwards if you feel like your in the funk. If I have a bad session I call my favorite person and they cheer me up and we discuss why we could have talked about things or how it benefits me. I also will try to stay and talk till I do manage to feel better before diving back into society.

Usually I left feeling good, and then felt burdened later when I thought about how much I could have said, how much I could have said about other things. - Usually I would set something that I enjoy up at the same time, like going to the post office (... I really like the post office, okay?) and then I'd walk over to my mom's work, and all.

I'm usually completely exhausted, so I tend to take a night to relax, watch movies, have a bath, generally take care for myself. If it's a morning appointment I try to stay busy through the day, I'm usually at college straight after.

I'm normally left feeling pretty vulnerable and emotional..and if I don't have to go do something straight after I try to do something I like to get my mind off it, sometimes that is calling a friend or sometimes it can be simply going for a walk or watching a happy film x

When I was in therapy, my appointments were at 7 p.m. weekly and I was exhausted afterwards. I got irritable and upset and I just didn't want to talk to anyone or do anything. So I usually plugged my headphones in and listened to music until I fell asleep, or found something better to do with my time.

Re: After you have seen your therapist, counselor, doctor etc - April 27th 2012, 03:27 AM

My appointments at the moment are usually just before lunch, so I often walk up to the mall and relax and sometimes have something to eat afterwards.

The walk also helps because it gives me some space to clear my head before having to get on a crowded bus
Mind you, because I'm currently working with a new person, the appointments aren't all that strenuous at the moment, for which I'm thankful.
