Atypical Anorexia Nervosa - July 21st 2016, 12:02 AM

I'm sorry for posting so much in this forum. I went and saw my doctor today and he diagnosed me with Atypical Anorexia Nervosa. I think it's just a way of him saying I'm too fat to have a proper eating disorder, but that might just be the voices in my head. Anyways, has anyone ever heard of it? I haven't heard of it until today.. Any tips?

did research. atypical ana nervosa is when someone shows many of the symptoms and has the disorted eating problems but dont show some of the major ones like missing periods, being at least 85 percent underweight or a few of the other major ones. but technically u still have it but not a pure form if anorexia. hope that helps.

Atypical anorexia can be classified as a subtype of EDNOS or a subtype of anorexia. Most people will be diagnosed with EDNOS, eating disorder not otherwise specified, due to the criteria for anorexia and bulimia being very specific and most people don't actually fit into these. Labels are generally for insurance purposes and as a basis for where to start with treatment more than anything else, and don't let your eating disorder use it as a tool against you- your diagnosis does not summarise your struggle.

Did you doctor refer you for any further treatment? I'm glad you're seeking help

Sorry for the late reply, he's referring me back to my family doctor to see the nutritionist in the office, and they are trying to get me in to see their counsellor.
