Have you had a mental illness?
Yes. I have diagnose depression and anorexia. I will also probably be getting diagnosed this week with anxiety and bipolar disorder.
Have you faced any discrimination for being mentally I'll?
Yes. Mainly over anonymous sights such as instagram. I have faced bullying there due to misconceptions on my eating disorder and cutting. I also hate on myself about it. I think I'm a worthless piece of shit because of it all.
Are there any positive things you have learned about having a mental illness?
So far no not really beside understand of others who have the same issues. Honestly I don't see many positives that come out of it all. I feel worthless and like no one deserves me because of it.

I've put 'I think...' mainly because depression and Bi-Polar disorders run in my mothers family, I think I have a form of depression
It's pretty obvious I have some form of social anxiety too and insomnia, if that's a mental illness
Also, I've had anorexia in the past, it wasn't diagnosed but that was only because my parents were embarrassed

Have you had a mental illness?
Yes, I've been diagnosed with depression, generalized anxiety disorder, and social anxiety. I also think I may have a slight eating disorder, but I've yet to get it diagnosed because I find it kind of difficult to talk about with my therapist (or anyone, really).
Have you faced any discrimination for being mentally ill?
No, because no one outside of my parents, therapist, and few close friends know about it.
Are there any positive things you have learned from having a mental illness?
Mmm, I guess it's given me a more open mind and a better ability to empathize with people who are also suffering.

Voted I think I have one.
Some Riot - Elbow
A friend of mine grows his very own brambles
They twist all around him 'til he can't move
Beautiful, quivering, chivalrous shambles
What is my friend trying to prove?
...I think when he's drinking he's drowning some riot
What is my friend trying to hide?
...And it's breaking my heart to pour like the rain
Brother of mine, don't run with those fuckers
When will my friend start singing again?

My diagnosis has changed since my most recent hospital admission.
It is now . . .
Mood disorder due to a general medical condition, and Borderline Personality Disorder.
And my doc recently filled out a disability certificate that states I have two disabilities . . . "Other psychological/psychiatric" and "Other nervous system" . . . interesting.

Aspergers, anxiety, depersonalisation disorder (unsure of spelling), and I can't remember if depression was an actual diagnosis but I have in the past been on medications for it.
I used to get picked on a lot when I was in mainstream, thankfully got moved elsewhere.
I'm not sure if I like living with these or not, I mean I'm kinda thankful in a way that Aspergers has given me some talents in one way or another, but depersonalisation is one of the scariest things I've had to live with.

Have you had a mental illness?
- Yes, I am diagnosed with Bi-Polar Disorder, Anxiety Disorder, and PTSD. I'm in remission of Anorexia and Self Harm.
Have you faced any discrimination for being mentally ill?
- Constantly. Especially from family. I live in a family that doesn't believe in mental health. I also have friends who see me as having too much baggage. I get asked "why can't you just be happy" all the time.
Are there any positive things you have learned from having a mental illness?
- Shoot! So many things have happened to make me a better person because of this.

I have depression, and some form of an anxiety disorder (they've never said you have ____ disorder)
And lately i've been thinking i might be bi polar but im not sure...
From day one I talked about getting out
But not forgetting about

If you were diagnosed with Depression, you won't have Bipolar Disorder. The two contradict one another, both symptomatically and medically.

I've need diagnosed with depression with suicidal and self harming tendencies as well as general and social anxiety, but at times anorexia, bulimia, emotional intensity disorder/borderline personality disorder and a couple of others have been thrown around.
Stigma - a lot. I've been called almost every name under the sun, I've lost friends because their parents told them to stay away from me, I was forced to move schools because the teachers told me I was making the rest of the school ill. And of course the random people in the street witnessing a panic attack and/or minor breakdown/paranoid symptoms can't help but tell their children that I'm dangerous. And my parents refusal to admit I was I'll despite a hospital admission.
I've learned that yu can't tell what someone is thinking or feeling by looking at them, and that what s on the outside may not be the truth.

I have ADHD and OCD diagnosed. OTD accompanies those two and I'm possibly slightly autistic.
Its hard to focus on just one thing and stay focused long enough to finish the task. My OCD makes me do the same things over and over again and the OTD makes me obsessively think about things and often they are "what if" scenarios about hitting cars or dying, etc.
I've been picked on a bit for forgetting what I've said and repeating, for opening cans in certain way and always smelling my food before putting it in my mouth. Usually, its my little habits that people notice. My OTD isn't a visible thing but its noticed when I talk and just ramble on about a million different things at once.
I do enjoy being able to do things very quickly and it helps in some situations.
Everything will be good in the end, if its not good, its not the end.

Have you had a mental illness?
Yes, sort of. I was recently diagnosed with Dysthymia (Chronic Depression) by a counsellor/ psychologist at my college. But, I've had ADD for 10 or so years now.
Have you faced any discrimination for being mentally I'll?
Not really because only a few people know.
Are there any positive things you have learned about having a mental illness?
Not really, but now I understand what others are going through because I'm going through the same thing or have the same issues. I honestly don't see any positives out of having ADD and Dysthymia. I feel low all the time because of the Dysthymia. I feel stupid because I have ADD and I have to take meds for it.

Have you had a mental illness?
- Yes, I have been diagnosed with moderate depression and I think I may have bipolar disorder.
Have you faced any discrimination for being mentally ill?
- I've never really told anyone other than my doctor and my mom. Anyone who finds out is more careful around me and it just gets awkward. So, not really
Are there any positive things you have learned from having a mental illness?
- I've learned how to act "normal" in public.

Feel free to merge these, since I now have an added response.
I was diagnosed with OCD. (And add self harming to that list coz that'd be one wouldn't it?)
Yes, I am often discriminated against my OCD, depression and self harming. People tell me that my life isn't bad enough to HAVE depression... Nor am I a "true" self harmer, also, they pick on me for having to wash my hands constantly, or that I pick things out by even numbers.
I haven't learnt much.. Maybe just smile through the pain, there ARE bright patches of light which can peek through. BUt other than that, they mostly give me bad thoughts and hurt me a lot...
Jay.

Have you had a mental illness?
I voted yes - diagnosed with Aspergers and OCD at 11; told "I no longer fit the diagnostic criteria" at 14
Have you faced any discrimination for being mentally ill?
No - I thought I would; but I really haven't faced any
Are there any positive things you have learned from having a mental illness
I don't know if it would really be considered a positive, but I like knowing about myself, and it hasn't caused me any real problems in life, so I'm okay with it.

I have severe Body Dysmorphic Disorder - it has been occurring on and off ever since I was 12 years old.
It's daunting - no one ever seems to understand my condition, let alone help me. This has led me to eventually beg and plead everyone, from my Mom to my Boyfriends, to help me, but none of them really wished to, and therefore deserted me for good.
This weakness can terribly diminish your self-esteem and self-confidence. However last year I was a little alright, and free from this. Then just before NYE in 2012 I witnessed a single white hair, which got me on the BDD track again.
I can't sleep - I keep crying all night. I feel my head's gonna explode.

I have Depression but never been diagnosed. I like to call it Situational Depression, I can go into a downward spiral, become depressed, antisocial, apathetic, but something has to happen to trigger it, some sort of a life event.............. hard to explain considering I have never been diagnosed .

I still have no diagnosis, but given that they aren't letting me be discharged from counseling and they're trying to get me into DBT as well as CBT I think it's safe to say something's wrong.
